What we can offer:
An exciting opportunity for a compassionate photographer has arisen to join our busy department based in central London. You will join an experienced team of dedicated and friendly medical photographers.
The team provides photography and videography from a dedicated studio and on wards/theatres and other areas of the Trust. The medical photographs and videos help clinicians deliver the best possible care. As a department we have strong links with GOSH Arts and GOSH Charity. We are a professional team who are passionate about our patients and service users.
What we are looking for/who we are looking to recruit:
We are looking for an individual with a degree in medical photography or a degree in photography, with a strong desire to work in a clinical setting. The photographer must have excellent communication skills. You will be able to demonstrate an ability to work independently, and with the
team, to manage the workload and provide support to deliver projects within agreed timelines. You must be able to produce high quality, repeatable photography and to handle more creative PR assignments.

Main duties of the job

* To participate in all aspects of clinical and scientific photography of patients at Great Ormond Street hospital in a variety of locations to include studios, wards, clinics, operating theatres and mortuary; guided by standard departmental operating procedures
* To competently interpret illustrative recording requests to provide clinicians with high quality images and video for clinical assessment, diagnosis, records, teaching, clinical trials, publication and research
* When needed use persuasive skills when photographing patients with complex needs
* To be responsible for understanding all relevant issues surrounding patient consent for illustrative recording and be able to provide advice about appropriate policy, techniques and image management to Trust staff
* Responsible for deciding the most appropriate photographic technique to best demonstrate the patients’ condition from the options available – this might include cross lighting, specialist photographic techniques/equipment
* To participate in clinical research trials, working to agreed protocols and maintaining consistency and comparability of images and associated data
* Ensure repeatability of images by accurately logging anatomical and magnification details
* To undertake general photographic assignments competently and creatively, PR photography, portraiture and other forms of general photography
* To assist in the implementation of new technologies and techniques as appropriate

Essential criteria

* Degree in Photography or Graduate/Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Illustration/Clinical Photography
* Registered as Medical Illustration Practitioners with the Academy of Healthcare Science (AHCS) or Institute of Medical Illustrators Certificate of Competence.


Desirable criteria

* Degree equivalent level of knowledge and experience
* Continuing Professional Development


Experience/Knowledge


Essential criteria

* Computer literacy and competent in image industry standard manipulation software
* Medical photography principles and practice
* Broad understanding of diseases and conditions and how photography is applied to these conditions
* Extensive understanding of patient positioning to achieve the best quality photography and experience for the patient


Skills/Abilities


Essential criteria

* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Ability to adhere to strict routine protocols for clinical photography
* Ability to meet deadlines whilst working in a pressured environment
* To be discrete and maintain confidentiality in accordance with current Data Protection legislation and other relevant official policies and guidance
* Excellent organisational skills with the ability to priorities and delegate work
* Ability to use own initiative, make decisions and solve problems quickly.
