Permanent FTE post in 400 bed public sector hospital RACP accredited training department Generous benefits package including relocation and visa sponsorship Live and work in the stunning Hawke's Bay region Our client, a leading healthcare provider in New Zealand's Hawke's Bay region, is seeking an experienced Consultant Geriatrician to join an established geriatric medicine service. The position is based on the AT&R inpatient rehabilitation ward, sharing 25-35 beds with another Consultant Geriatrician. The hospital serves a population of 155,000 people in the North Island of New Zealand. With a 400-bed hospital, two rural hospitals, and a flight retrieval service, it is committed to providing high-quality, accessible healthcare to the community. Position Overview and Responsibilities The role includes the following: Ward rounds and ward work in the AT&R mixed rehabilitation ward – managing patients of all ages. Outpatient clinics for patients over 65 (or over 55 and Maori/Pacifica). Community visits for patients over 65 (or over 55 and Maori/Pacifica). Consultations: review of inpatients referred for rehabilitation or requiring Geriatrician opinion. Multi-disciplinary team meetings – AT&R ward and Engage teams. Discussions and meetings with caregivers and whanau. Triaging and responding to referral letters Telephone advice and consultation Preparation of reports e.g. ACC, coroner reports Research and study relating to treatment of a specific patient Clinical advice, teaching, mentoring and support to other staff Requirements FRACP or equivalent qualification recognised by the Medical Council of New Zealand Eligibility for vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand Proven experience in geriatric medicine Strong communication and interpersonal skills Commitment to providing high-quality, patient-centred care Benefits Competitive salary in accordance with ASMS MECA or IEA Additional allowances for on-call duties 6% employer contribution to pension scheme 6 weeks annual leave and 10 days study leave with $16,000 annual allowance Comprehensive relocation package and visa sponsorship for eligible candidates Alongside this attractive benefits package, you'll be part of a friendly, supportive team that values work-life balance and ongoing professional development.
