Teaching Personnel are seeking a compassionate, resilient, and committed SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) Support Assistant to work within a specialist provision in York. This is a rewarding opportunity to support young people who require tailored emotional and behavioural support to thrive in their education.
The Role:
Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with SEMH needs
Promote positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and social development
Support pupils in accessing the curriculum, both in and out of the classroom
Work closely with teaching staff, SENCOs, and other professionals
Assist with implementing individual behaviour and support plans
The Ideal Candidate Will:
Have experience working with children or young people with SEMH or additional needs (formal or informal)
Be patient, understanding, and able to build positive relationships
Remain calm and professional under pressure
Be confident in de-escalation techniques and managing behaviour
Have a genuine passion for helping young people reach their full potential
Desirable (but not essential):
Team Teach or MAPA training
Knowledge of trauma-informed practice
Background in youth work, support work, or education
