Position: Deputy Headteacher with teaching commitment Location: Shrewsbury, Shropshire Hours: 40 hours per week, term time, permanent position Salary Details: Up to £43,250 per annum Oakwood School is seeking a passionate and driven Deputy Head Teacher to join our supportive Senior Leadership Team. The Deputy Headteacher will support the Headteacher in providing outstanding leadership across the school, ensuring pupils continue to benefit from the highly nurturing environment and ambitious curriculum praised by Ofsted. The post holder will play a central role in driving school improvement, strengthening staff expertise, and ensuring the consistency of high-quality provision. The school: Oakwood School is an independent specialist provision which provides high quality, personalised education for young people aged 5 to 16 with social, emotional and mental health difficulties and who are at significant risk. Main Purpose of the Role: Support the Headteacher in delivering strategic leadership that upholds the school’s vision and Cambian Group values. Take full responsibility for the school in absence of the Head Teacher. Lead on operational management when required, ensuring smooth day-to-day running of the school. Provide leadership that continues to foster the strong, nurturing relationships as central to pupils’ success Support the Head Teacher in the leadership and management of Cambian Oakwood School, deputising as required in the absence of the Head Teacher. Curriculum and Quality of Education Oversee the planning, delivery and evaluation of a broad, ambitious and adaptive curriculum, ensuring it meets diverse pupil needs. Support subject leaders in maintaining high-quality provision across all subjects, especially in non-core subjects. Ensure learning is responsive to each pupil’s starting point and adaptive to their individual learning profiles. Ensure compliance with the Independent School standards. Lead aspects of the school’s self-evaluation cycle and contribute to ongoing school development planning. Monitor the effectiveness of teaching, curriculum delivery and behavioural support, ensuring that areas for improvement identified by Ofsted are addressed strategically. Use data and evidence to drive improvement and evaluate the impact of interventions. Lead on assessment. The Role will include: Teaching small groups of pupils within the classroom.
