Brighton College is seeking to appoint a Performing Arts Music Technician
Reporting to: Performing Arts Admin Supervisor
Main purpose of the role: As part of the Performing Arts department, the Performing Arts Music Technician will be the day:to:day support for the music department and users of the Sarah Abraham Recital Hall.
Reporting to the Performing Arts Admin Supervisor, the Performing Arts Music Technician will support the Music department in their day:to:day operations for lessons, performances, and other events. They will also support the wider Performing Arts team, especially in the delivery of the Audio and Video editing services under direction of the Theatre Operations Manager.
General Duties And Responsibilities
* Coordinate and manage daily ensemble set:ups and take:downs of orchestras, bands, choirs, and chamber ensembles across Brighton College for the 35 weekly rehearsals in the SARH, Hordern Room, and other venues.
* Supporting requests for musical instruments across the College sites.
* Stage manage and provide logistical and technical support for the large number of music events that take place across the year.
* Lead in the school wide requirements for recording and editing audio and visual content.
* Acting as the in:house technician for the Sarah Abraham Recital Hall (setting up and striking of all equipment needed for non:music events.)
* Maintain an updated inventory of technical and musical equipment and ensure all equipment is in good working order.
* Repair, maintain, and tune guitars and drum kits as needed.
* Repair and maintain leads, mics and power packs for stage pianos, amps, and guitars.
* Oversee the recording suite within the SARH.
* Overall responsibility for technological support for the Music Department.
* Assist in managing, maintaining, and operating the classroom instruments and additional Colleges Technical equipment across the College.
* Provide technical support to facilitate the smooth running of all College performances, assemblies, live events, Open Mornings, Options Evenings, and taster events.
* Adhere to the Colleges health and safety requirements in handling Technical and Performing Arts equipment.
* Promote and safeguard the welfare of the children and young people with whom you come into contact.
* Any other reasonable management request.
Person Specification
The successful candidate will have experience in the following areas:
* Experience and knowledge of technical work in a music or theatrical environment.
* Proficient Logic user.
* Knowledge of recording equipment, video, microphones, recording techniques and enthusiasm for producing high quality recordings is essential.
* Knowledge of AV equipment and video/audio editing software.
* Understanding of the maintenance needs of music equipment.
* Ability to work unsupervised and to take responsibility for own actions. Ability to be proactive in seeking solutions to enable conclusion of tasks.
* Ability to remain calm under pressure, organise time effectively, creating work schedules, prioritising workload, and meeting deadlines.
* Actively fit to work alone in moving instruments and music around the College.
* The ability to think ahead and draw up schedules of review and follow:up, as necessary.
* Ability to work accurately with an eye for detail.
* Flexibility.
Hours Of Work
This role will be on an annualised hours basis, which means the successful candidate will be expected to work a set number of hours per annum, equivalent to 40 hours per week across 35 weeks, between January and December. Weekly hours will be agreed with their line manager via a rostering system issued in advance and can be discussed in further detail at interview. Due to the nature of the role, there will be a requirement to work some evenings and weekends to support the Colleges events.
