Your Role as Design Manager
London Gatwick is on the lookout for a Design Manager (Civils) to lead the design elements across major construction and infrastructure projects. If you have a proven track record of managing teams and delivering design for projects over £150 million, this is your chance to make a significant impact!
As part of the Airfield & Civils Construction Programme Delivery Team, you will help shape the infrastructure that supports Gatwick's future growth—enhancing resilience, safety, and sustainability across our airfield.
What Will You Do?
* Own the end-to-end design process from project inception to completion, including overseeing smaller projects as needed.
* Develop project scopes that align with business needs.
* Find innovative design solutions that are deliverable, cost-effective, and meet GAL engineering standards.
* Create clear and transparent design briefs for external consultants.
* Manage and review outputs from external design consultants to ensure quality and alignment with delivery milestones.
* Collaborate with the Asset Information Team and stakeholders to determine asset information requirements for design and construction contracts.

* Multi-disciplinary experience in engineering design or design management, ideally in a live operational environment.
* Proven track record in delivering safety-critical outcomes for significant multi-year infrastructure programmes valued over £150 million.
* Strong knowledge of design, construction techniques, technical requirements, and regulations.
* Experience in leading multi-disciplinary teams.
* A degree or equivalent in architecture, engineering, or a construction-related field.
