To protect and enforce rights in the Virgin brand (plus related brands) and in the Richard Branson name globally, and to manage a small team accountable for these activities. The role supports the Group Legal & IP Director running the brand aspects of the Virgin Group Legal team and requires strategic and innovative thinking to protect the Virgin brand over the long term.

* Develop, implement, and update the brand protection strategy to meet the evolving needs of the business with input from relevant teams.
* Develop, implement, and update a domain names policy to meet the evolving needs of the business with input from relevant teams.
* Manage the global trademarks portfolio.
* Manage the domain names portfolio.
* Monitor brand infringements and scamming activities.
* Take appropriate action in relation to infringements and scamming activities.
* Provide appropriate reporting on brand protection matters and scamming activities to key senior stakeholders.
* Manage the relationships with key brand protection suppliers including trademark attorney firms, domain name specialists and on-line brand protection companies, together with the Group Legal & IP Director
* Take appropriate steps to drive Virgin appreciation of brand protection and scamming risks, including giving appropriate training and updates, and developing effective and appropriate ways to manage those risks.
* Manage the brand protection elements of the legal team budget, jointly with the Group Legal & IP Director
* Manage, guide, and develop the Trademark Assistant and Trademark Attorney
* Key stakeholders include the wider Group Legal Team, the Brand, Investment and External Comms teams, as well as the Virgin Enterprises Limited board, and relevant key senior stakeholders.
What you’ll need
* Trademark Attorney CITMA professional membership, and a minimum of 8 years’ experience post CITMA qualification is anticipated.
* Extensive experience of managing trademark and domain name portfolios and disputes on a worldwide basis gained in both private practice and in-house roles.
* Extensive experience of on-line brand protection including infringements and scamming activity.
* Experience of guiding, managing, and motivating a small team and defining and achieving appropriate team objectives
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to articulate judgement clearly and persuasively.
* The ideal candidate will be highly organised, with an ability to handle a large and varied workload.
* A strong legal knowledge is required but that should be balanced with the ability to apply common sense and a practical approach to dispute resolution in the context of the Virgin brand.
