Estimator – Construction Projects
Location: Portsmouth
Salary: £50,000 - £65,000 plus car allowance
Type: Full-time | Permanent
We’re representing a highly regarded construction company with an expanding portfolio of work. They are currently looking for a skilled and proactive Estimator to join their team and support the continued growth of their Building Projects division.
This role offers a high level of autonomy and the chance to be part of a collaborative estimating team, working on a wide range of projects across the education, healthcare, housing, and commercial sectors.
About the Role:
As Estimator, you will be responsible for pricing a variety of new build, refurbishment, and extension projects typically ranging from £100k to £5m. You will play a key role in tender evaluations, pricing strategies, and preparing accurate cost plans, with the full support of the senior management team.
Key Responsibilities:
* Review and evaluate tender enquiries to identify opportunities, risks, and contractual considerations
* Prepare bills of quantities and schedules of work from drawings, specifications, and site visits
* Price all elements of the works accurately, obtaining and comparing quotations from suppliers and subcontractors
* Prepare detailed tender reports for adjudication by senior leadership
* Collaborate with the wider bid team to ensure timely, professional tender submissions
* Engage in post-tender negotiations, value engineering, and contract finalisation
* Produce handover packs for successful tenders to support delivery teams
* Work closely with the Business Development team to support future project opportunities
What We're Looking For:
* Strong technical understanding of general construction methods and practices
* Proven experience preparing accurate and competitive quotations in a main contractor environment (projects £100k to £5m)
* Experience with both traditional and design & build tenders
* Solid understanding of JCT contracts and procurement frameworks
Qualifications:
* HNC or Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field (desirable)
* Membership of a relevant professional body such as MCIOB or MRICS (desirable)
