Leisure Assistant
1 FTE / 35 Hours per week. We welcome part‑time applications up to 1.0 FTE. Grade 2, £23,196.00 (pro‑rated for part‑time hours).
Position Overview
Assist, monitor and supervise customers in the Marjon Sports Centre, with specific responsibilities in lifeguarding, setting up sporting activities and ensuring customer satisfaction. Work a shift pattern covering the hours the centre is open: early shift 6am-2pm, late shift 2pm-10.15pm, Monday to Friday. Weekend hours 7.30am-5.30pm.
Responsibilities
* Promote sport, health and wellbeing; lifeguard and prepare facilities within the Sport Centre.
* Ensure the health and safety of swimmers through vigilant supervision of the swimming pool in line with the Normal Operating Plan and Emergency Action Plan.
* Supervise the gym to ensure members follow the gym code of conduct.
* Ensure all facilities are operational and maintained in accordance with all legislation and statutory requirements; may include some heavy lifting.
* Set up and dismantle equipment as required; prepare facilities for bookings.
* Occupy the help desk and deliver excellent customer service.
Qualifications and Experience
* National Pool Lifeguard Qualification.
* Level 2 fitness instructor qualification and experience working in a sports centre/health club.
* Enthusiastic and passionate about higher education and Marjon specifically.
* Calm, able to use own initiative.
* Good communication skills and comfortable working as part of a team.
* Willing to be flexible around working hours, including evening and/or weekend work.
