Accounts and Finance Manager

Job Summary
Reporting directly to the GP Partners, this role is responsible for managing all financial operations, ensuring compliance, and supporting forward planning and sustainability of the practice.
Main Duties
* Manage invoices, payments, and financial queries.
* Maintain Xero records and reconcile accounts.
* Oversee payroll and pensions administration.
* Submit ARRS and other NHS claims.
* Prepare financial reports for GP Partners.
* Support budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow optimisation.
* Lead year‑end financial preparation and liaison with the accountant.

Responsibilities
* Oversee day‑to‑day financial operations including budgeting, income reconciliation, payroll oversight, NHS claims, and financial reporting.
* Work closely with Partners, Practice Manager and leadership team to support strategic decision‑making through clear financial insight.
* Ensure compliance with NHS and statutory requirements.
* Coordinate with external accountants and the Integrated Care Board.
* Help develop robust systems and controls within the practice.
Qualifications
* High level numeracy skills – GCSE or NVQ minimum; A level or higher preferred.
* Desirable accountancy/finance qualifications.
Experience
* Demonstrable experience in a finance or senior administrative role, preferably within NHS, primary care or public sector.
* Strong understanding of budgeting, financial reporting and income reconciliation.
* Highly organised, numerate, analytical with excellent attention to detail.
* Clear communication skills and confidence working with senior stakeholders.
* Ability to manage multiple priorities independently in a fast‑paced environment.
* Commitment to confidentiality, good governance and regulatory frameworks.
Desirable
* Experience working in Primary Care.
* Familiarity with GP primary care financial accounting and processes.
* Knowledge of cash‑flow forecasting and budgeting.
* Experience in financial reporting.
Other Requirements
* Disclosure and Barring Service check is required.
* Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 applies.
