Offer description

Who are we?

Howden is a global insurance group with employee ownership at its heart. Together, we have pushed the boundaries of insurance. We are united by a shared passion and no-limits mindset, and our strength lies in our ability to collaborate as a powerful international team comprised of 24,000 employees spanning over 56 countries.

People join Howden for many different reasons, but they stay for the same one: our culture. It’s what sets us apart, and the reason our employees have been turning down headhunters for years. Whatever your priorities – work / life balance, career progression, sustainability, volunteering – you’ll find like-minded people driving change at Howden.

This role sits within Howden’s Consumer & Local Commercial insurance division: the part of the business focused on finding the right insurance solutions for individual clients, families and local businesses through our nationwide branch network.

Marketing plays a critical role in how Consumer & Local Commercial grows: helping branches stand out locally, supporting advisers with engaging content, and making sure our brand shows up consistently and confidently across channels.

This is a genuinely varied, social‑first marketing role. You’ll own and evolve our social media presence, support branches with their local activity, and turn central campaigns and business priorities into compelling, locally‑relevant social content. You’ll also act as the bridge between branches and our Centres of Excellence, making sure great local stories become strong central marketing.

If you want a role where you can shape content, influence stakeholders and prove that marketing and insurance can be anything but dull, this is it.

The role at a glance

1. Social‑first marketing role with real ownership and visibility
2. Managing central and branch social media channels
3. Acting as the conduit between branches and Centres of Excellence (Content & PR)
4. Supporting national and local campaigns end-to-end
5. Highly collaborative, fast‑paced and hands‑on

What you’ll be doing

Social media & influencer strategy (core focus)

6. Own and manage Howden’s central and local social media presence across Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn and emerging channels.
7. Proactively plan, create and publish engaging content that builds brand awareness, drives engagement and supports commercial goals.
8. Act as the go‑to social media partner for our branch network, coaching and supporting branches to improve the quality and consistency of their local activity.
9. Run branch drop‑ins, training sessions and clinics to build confidence and capability.
10. Build and evolve Howden’s social media influencer strategy, identifying relevant creators, ambassadors and partners, setting objectives and guidelines, and managing activity end to end.
11. Monitor social trends, cultural moments and competitor activity, turning insight into timely, relevant content.
12. Manage day‑to‑day community engagement, comments and reactive activity.
13. Lead competitions, giveaways and community‑focused social initiatives.
14. Track performance, analyse results and share insight to improve future activity.

Content, PR & newsletters

15. Create and adapt compelling, on‑brand content for social channels, taking core campaign or business content and translating it into engaging, channel‑appropriate social activity.
16. Act as the conduit between branches and the Communications Centre of Excellence, gathering local stories, insight and assets, and shaping clear briefs for newsletters, blogs and PR, ensuring social insight and local context are reflected.
17. Film and edit short‑form video content for social channels.
18. Create or brief visual assets using tools such as Canva, or via our in-house studio, optimised for social platforms.
19. Ensure all social and supporting content is compliant, accessible and aligned with brand and FCA guidelines.

Campaign & project delivery

20. Support the rollout of national and local marketing campaigns from brief through to delivery and evaluation.
21. Translate campaign strategy into clear, practical toolkits and guidance that branches can easily activate.
22. Manage multiple projects simultaneously, keeping stakeholders aligned and delivery on track.
23. Support events and local activations where required, including coordination of materials and content.
24. Track performance, analyse results and share insight to improve future activity.

Stakeholder management & influence

25. Build strong relationships across the branch network, central teams and Centres of Excellence.
26. Confidently influence, challenge and push back when needed, offering clear rationale and solutions.
27. Balance central brand priorities with local flexibility and needs.

What we’re looking for

Experience & capabilities

28. Proven experience in a social‑first or content‑led marketing role, ideally B2C or retail.
29. Hands‑on experience managing and growing professional social media accounts.
30. Experience creating engaging written, visual and video content for different audiences.
31. Strong understanding of what makes content perform across different platforms.
32. Experience supporting multiple stakeholders (branches, regions, franchises or similar environments is a plus).
33. Comfortable working across multiple projects in a fast‑moving environment.
34. Experience working within brand and regulatory frameworks (financial services experience helpful but not essential).
35. You must be based and have the right to work in the UK.
36. You must hold a full driving licence as regular travel to our branches is required as part of the role.

Skills that really matter

37. Exceptional copywriting — clear, punchy and human.
38. Strong stakeholder management, influencing and communication skills.
39. Excellent organisation, planning and project management.
40. Creative thinker with the confidence to bring ideas and challenge thinking.
41. Commercial awareness and curiosity about what drives engagement and results.
42. Confident using insight and data to inform decisions.
43. Proactive, self‑motivated and comfortable taking ownership.

Qualifications

44. Degree, CIM qualification or equivalent experience related to the role, such as marketing, communications or English.

Why you’ll enjoy this role

45. You’ll have real ownership of social media and content, not just execution.
46. You’ll influence how a national brand shows up locally and centrally.
47. You’ll work on high‑profile campaigns, content and community initiatives.
48. You’ll be trusted to bring ideas, shape strategy and make things better.
49. You’ll join a marketing team that values creativity, pace and plain English.
