About this opportunity
Come and join our Home to School Transport service! We are CTOT, Westmorland and Furness Council’s in-house Transport Operational Team and we are looking to recruit a number of drivers who can drive a car, MPV, minibus or a coach and preferably hold a D1 (grandfather rights) or Cat D driving license entitlement.
Candidates should be flexible, capable of providing a high standard of passenger safety and care throughout the journey and committed to delivering Home to School transport for SEND pupils and Vulnerable Adults. Enhanced DBS clearance is required; full training and uniform is provided.
The service operates Monday to Friday, Term time with school runs on a split shift basis (approximately 7:30 – 9:30am and 14:30 – 16:30pm). We are developing work opportunities through the day in our down-time, and hours potentially could be up to 25 hours a week, term time with the potential for additional hours during the school holidays.
We would also consider applicants from drivers who could either work mornings, or afternoons to cover routes on a “job-share” basis. The hourly rate is £14.36 rising to £14.84 per hour following satisfactory probationary review and there is a pay award pending.
Candidates who are successful in being shortlisted will also be required to pass a driving assessment to be held on the same day of interview at our Skirsgill Operational Depot, Penrith, Cumbria (any change to this will be discussed with candidates).
Penrith Operations: Skirsgill Depot, Penrith – Minibus/MPV suitability: non-vocational D1 (grandfather rights) or Cat B license. Various contract hours available, part time & full time (term time).
Kendal Operations: South Lakeland House & Busher Walk, Kendal – Minibus/MPV suitability: non-vocational D1 (grandfather rights) or Cat B license. Various contract hours available, part time & full time (term time).
Barrow Operations: Salthouse Road Depot/Sowerby Woods Depot – Minibus/MPV suitability: non-vocational D1 (grandfather rights) or Cat B license. Various contract hours available, part time & full time (term time).
It is important to note: Applicants may apply for mornings or afternoons to cover routes on a job-share basis.

Salary: £27,711 - £28,624 (pro rata) (£14.36 - £14.84 per hour) (pay award pending). Term time only. Hours are variable, part-time (split shift), 25 hours term-time with potential for some work during school holidays. Permanent and casual worker (zero hours) contracts.
Eligibility and requirements:
* Possess a driving entitlement suitable for the role (D1/grandfather rights or Cat D; or Cat B with appropriate minibus/MPV capability).
* Enhanced DBS clearance is required.
* Full training and uniform provided.
* Ability to comply with passenger safety and care standards throughout journeys.
