Job Description:
Job title: Principal Control & Instrumentation Engineer
Location: Barrow-in-Furness, Filton, or Manchester (minimum 2 days on-site per fortnight). We offer hybrid and flexible working arrangements; please discuss options with your recruiter.
Responsibilities:
1. Develop a functional design for the Vehicle Control solution for SSNA.
2. Coordinate with stakeholders to oversee delivery of the vehicle control solution and strategy.
3. Support assurance activities with the Office of the Chief Engineer.
4. Collaborate with the engineering manager to deliver the vehicle control system, reporting progress through agile tools.
5. Ensure timely delivery of the engineering plan.
6. Provide guidance on engineering methods and processes.
7. Work with the Engineering Delivery Team to develop technical solutions and mentor team members.
8. Engage with legacy stakeholders to develop solutions from baseline designs.
Skills and Experience:
1. Experience in designing large-scale C&I systems meeting various standards.
2. Managing non-functional requirements like EMC and shock compliance.
3. Experience in authoring/reviewing design documents.
4. Degree or equivalent in STEM (Engineering, Physics, Maths, Science).
5. Understanding of control system architecture and protocols (RS-485, PROFIBUS).
6. Experience with IEC 61508 or similar functional safety standards.
7. Experience with manoeuvring systems across industries.

You will contribute to the design of the Royal Navy's next-generation attack submarines, working with legacy and new control technologies, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders. Relocation support is available for eligible roles.
