Teaching Assistant - Complex Needs Location: NG17 Role: Teaching Assistant - Complex Needs Start Date: ASAP / Ongoing Contract: Full-time, Term Time Only About the Role We are currently recruiting for a compassionate and committed Teaching Assistant to support pupils with complex needs within a specialist educational setting. This role is ideal for individuals with experience supporting students with a range of additional needs, including learning difficulties, physical disabilities, autism, and medical needs. You will play a key role in supporting pupils' learning, independence, communication, and emotional wellbeing in a safe and nurturing environment. Key Responsibilities Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with complex needs Assist in the delivery of personalised learning programmes tailored to individual pupils Support pupils with daily routines, including personal care if required Use strategies to support communication, including PECS, Makaton, or visual aids Foster independence, confidence, and life skills development Work closely with teachers, therapists, and support staff Promote a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment Support behaviour management in line with school policies Essential Requirements Experience working with children or young people with complex needs or SEND (desirable) A patient, caring, and adaptable approach Strong communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work effectively as part of a team Willingness to support with personal care needs Desirable Experience supporting pupils with autism, PMLD, or physical disabilities Knowledge of communication tools such as Makaton, PECS, or AAC devices Team Teach or similar behaviour management training Background in care, support work, or specialist education settings Understanding of sensory needs and regulation strategies What's on Offer Opportunities to develop your skills and enhance your CPD Access to ongoing training, including safeguarding Supportive and inclusive school environment Competitive pay rates with holiday pay included Referral scheme available Important Information This role is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
