This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Software Architect or a talented software designer ready to take the next step in their career. You’ll join a pioneering engineering environment that’s developing cutting-edge, safety-critical systems relied upon across Europe.
What’s on offer
* Salary: Up to around £80,000 depending on experience
* Bonus: Up to 21% of base salary
* Pension: Up to 14% combined employer and employee contributions
* Working pattern: Hybrid, typically 3–4 days on-site per week (due to security requirements)
* Clearance: Must be a British Citizen or Dual UK national with British citizenship (HMG BPSS checks will apply)
* Flexibility: Open to flexible working arrangements
The role
You’ll be the driving force behind the software architecture for complex, high-reliability systems. Working alongside delivery teams, you’ll define and monitor the architecture’s structure, interfaces, and temporal behaviour to ensure it meets demanding performance and reliability goals.
In this role, you will define and document key design drivers such as performance, safety, security, and maintainability, producing derived and emergent requirements while capturing underlying assumptions and rationale. You’ll ensure the integrity of the architecture by clearly setting the boundaries for implementation decisions, collaborating closely with other architects, technical specialists, and the wider engineering community. Beyond delivery, you’ll help shape the long-term software engineering strategy, influence future product lines and technology choices, and contribute to the adoption of new methods, tools, and architectural approaches across the organisation.
This is a highly collaborative environment where you’ll have the chance to contribute to technology strategy and architectural innovation.
What's required for this Software Architect position?
I'm looking for a confident technical leader who can balance hands-on expertise with high-level design thinking. You’ll ideally have:
* Strong experience making architectural and design decisions in complex software systems
* Knowledge of modern and traditional architecture techniques and design patterns
* Experience in model-based engineering
* A solid programming background (ideally across multiple languages)
* Excellent communication, mentorship, and collaboration skills
* Appreciation for practices such as continuous integration and robust design processes
* The ability to weigh trade-offs and justify design rationale effectively
