A well-established organisation based in Liverpool is seeking a Group Accountant to join its finance team. This is a pivotal role, offering the opportunity to contribute to the financial health and strategic direction of the business. You’ll be responsible for delivering accurate financial reporting, supporting decision-making, and ensuring compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
* Support the Head of Finance with monthly management accounts and annual statutory accounts.
* Prepare and post monthly journals, accruals, and prepayments.
* Complete monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
* Manage daily cashflow processes and forecasts.
* Submit quarterly VAT returns for the group.
* Monitor capital programmes and maintain audit-ready records.
* Manage deferred capital grants and related reporting.
* Prepare audit evidence and respond to external audit queries.
* Provide financial insights and reporting to senior stakeholders.
* Maintain and improve financial policies, procedures, and controls.
* Attend finance and budget holder meetings as required.
* Ensure quality control of financial data and intercompany transactions.
* Provide technical accounting support and training to junior team members.
* Assist with ad-hoc financial analysis and reporting.
* Identify and implement improvements to systems and processes.
* Maintain compliance with relevant regulations.
* Support wider organisational activities during key operational periods.
Experience/QualificationsEssential:
* Qualified, Part-Qualified or qualified by experience.
* Strong management and financial accounting background.
* Analytical, innovative, and solutions-focused.
* Excellent team player with strong interpersonal skills.
* Skilled in handling complex financial information and models.
* Advanced Excel and financial systems experience.
* High attention to detail and ability to meet tight deadlines.
* Flexible and collaborative approach to work.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
