With depots in Avonmouth, Cardiff, Gloucester, Stonehouse and Tewkesbury, we operate predominantly across the South-West of England. We specialise in Construction, Waste Management, Plant Hire, Demolition and Transport operations.

Job overview:

This position would suit someone with proven experience in managing waste operations. Our Moreton Valence materials recycling facility is a busy operation spanning over 30 acres just off of the A38. We are looking for someone to assume overall responsibility for site operations including staff, health and safety, and efficiencies.

The role would suit an individual who enjoys working outdoors, is an excellent communicator, adaptable, enthusiastic, with a strong commitment to continuous improvement and embracing change. This is not solely an office-based position, as you will be required to be out on site as well.

Job Title: Operations Manager

Location: Gloucester (GL2 7NG)

Hours: 7.00am-5.00pm (you will occasionally be required to work outside these hours).

Responsibilities for the job role:

* Overall responsibility for all depot operations and administration in the Moreton Valence Depot, including the Waste Transfer Station, Site Office, and Weighbridge.
* Assist with environmental issues within the above Departments and liaise with Natural Resources Wales (NRW), supporting the Compliance Manager, Quality Manager, and Divisional Operations Manager.
* Assist with Health & Safety issues within the Transfer Station and Site Office, liaising with the HSE, supporting the Group Health & Safety Manager. Ensure all operations are carried out safely, efficiently, and in accordance with policies and procedures.
* Ensure all site operations are conducted safely, staff are fully inducted and trained, and produce Risk Assessments and Method Statements for all tasks. Maintain training records and review training needs annually.
* Ensure compliance with all Company procedures, legislation, and industry standards. Maintain good relationships with local residents and manage fugitive emissions.
* Oversee waste transportation to ensure timely, efficient loading without environmental contamination.
* Develop and maintain Quality Assurance standards, maximize recycling and recovery rates, and ensure productivity meets financial targets.
* Lead development and promotion of recycling programs in collaboration with senior management.
* Understand operational issues and implement improvements to management, cost control, and profitability.
* Review and report on monthly cost statements, variance analysis, and statistical data. Maintain internal controls.
* Manage maintenance requirements, plant inspections, traffic management, and site security.
* Organize shift coverage, conduct return-to-work discussions, liaise with HR regarding staff welfare or disciplinary issues, and ensure staff consistency.
* Remain flexible to assist outside normal hours or undertake practical onsite work, including covering the weighbridge operator if needed.

Experience and qualifications:

* Hold a Certificate of Technical Competence (COTC) or working towards being the Technical Competent Manager (TCM). WAMITAB Level 4 Transfer/Treatment Non-Hazardous.
* Maintain up-to-date knowledge of waste recycling best practices.
* IOSH Managing Safely qualification preferred but not essential.
* Training will be provided for the right candidate after successful probation.
