The Role
As a Senior Lab Operations Manager, you will provide operational leadership across a group of technical laboratories and facilities. You will ensure facilities are safe, secure, compliant and available, while leading and coordinating a small team of Facility Managers and working closely with engineering teams to de‑conflict demand and optimise utilisation.
The role covers facilities at Farnborough and Haslar, including:
* Training Innovation Facility
* Batteries, Cables & Connectors
* Hybrid Electric Drive Systems (including decommissioning and recommissioning activity)
* Advanced Batteries and Power Sources
Day-to-day, you’ll manage your team of FMs to oversee operations and coordinate activities, deputising for your manager as appropriate.
Your responsibilities will include:
* Line Manage a small team of Facility Managers and facility support staff
* Ensure laboratories and facilities are safe, secure, compliant and fit for purpose
* Coordinate usage with internal and external customers
* Maintain compliance across H&S, security, governance, audit and accreditation requirements
* Lead continuous improvement activities to standardise and improve facility operations across your area of responsibility
* Support cost centre management and investment where necessary
Essential experience of the Senior Lab Operations Manager:
* Experience managing laboratories or technical environments
* People management experience, including all professional and personal development activities, managing and monitoring team members’ objectives to deliver effective services
* Strong understanding of health & safety in an operational setting by championing best practice promoting a positive safety culture in line with our business standards and expectations
* Ability to work with multiple stakeholders to balance competing priorities and resolve complex queries, escalating when appropriate
* Analytical mindset with a proactive, continuous improvement approach
* Experience coordinating operational delivery
Qualifications for the Senior Lab Operations Manager:
* Degree‑level qualification in engineering, technical or facilities discipline, or equivalent experience
* IOSH or NEBOSH qualification (Desirable not essential)

This role is 37 hours per week based at our Farnborough site a minimum of 3 days per week, with visits to Haslar (Gosport) expected once per month.
