Job Description
New Directions Education is recruiting Secondary SEMH Teaching Assistants to support pupils across Wakefield and Pontefract. We are looking for resilient, patient and compassionate individuals who want to make a real difference to young people with social, emotional, and mental‑health needs.
The Role
1. Provide 1:1 and small‑group SEMH support
2. Assist with emotional regulation and behaviour management
3. Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils
4. Support de‑escalation and promote positive behaviour strategies
5. Work alongside teachers, SENCOs and pastoral teams
About You
6. Experience supporting SEMH, challenging behaviour or vulnerable young people
7. Confident with behaviour management
8. Calm, empathetic and consistent in your approach
9. Backgrounds in youth work, care, support work or education welcome
10. Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one through New Directions)
