Job Summary:
• The Housing Solutions Officer will provide a comprehensive housing advice and homelessness prevention service, ensuring that customers receive accurate information, timely support, and effective solutions to secure accommodation.
• The post holder will assess housing needs, prevent homelessness where possible, and manage caseloads in line with statutory duties under housing legislation.
• The role requires excellent knowledge of housing law, customer service skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample):
• Deliver high-quality housing advice to applicants seeking assistance with homelessness or housing difficulties.
• Assess housing applications in line with relevant housing and homelessness legislation.
• Develop and implement effective homelessness prevention plans.
• Manage a personal caseload, ensuring decisions are made promptly and accurately.
• Liaise with landlords, letting agents, support providers, and other agencies to secure suitable housing options.
• Maintain accurate case notes and records in accordance with data protection and service requirements.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues across departments to achieve housing and safeguarding outcomes.
• Ensure all actions comply with current housing law, guidance, and internal policies.
Skills/Experience:
• Experience of working within housing advice, homelessness prevention, or a related public sector environment.
• Detailed knowledge of relevant housing legislation, including the Housing Act 1996 (as amended) and the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017.
• Proven ability to manage a complex caseload and meet tight deadlines.
• Strong communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent IT and administrative skills, including accurate record-keeping.
• Ability to work with empathy and professionalism when dealing with vulnerable individuals and families.
• Collaborative team working and stakeholder engagement experience.
