We are looking for an enthusiastic Engineering Manager to work within our Consumer Information Business.
This is an exciting opportunity to join Credit & Verification Services on our technology transformation journey. Over the next five years, we aim to scale our business. As part of our team, you will collaborate with others who use Agile DevSecOps principles to deliver value.
As a member of the Affordability and Originations team, you will be part of a delivery team. The products you will work with allow people to share their credit information with our clients, receiving a market-leading score and a clear picture of eligibility and affordability of new credit. Providing accurate and up-to-date information is key in maintaining financial health for our consumers.
We have a complex estate with a foundation of IBM Mainframe technologies. With a predominantly COBOL-based CICS architecture controlled by ChangeMan. We also incorporate JCL, WPS/SAS in batch environments and always keen to evaluate new features to see if we can take advantage of them.
This is a Nottingham based-hybrid role (40% in office) reporting to the Domain Engineering Director.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead and develop a cross-functional team (Environments, Product Application, Client Delivery), setting clear goals, operating rhythms, and quality standards.
* Drive end-to-end delivery (planning, estimation, execution, risk management) across concurrent initiatives, ensuring on-time outcomes.
* Establish engineering best practices (code quality, testing, release management, observability) and continuous improvement.
* Foster a culture of accountability, psychological safety, and continuous learning.
* Oversee provisioning, configuration, and change control
* Guide design, development, and maintenance of core product applications in COBOL, CICS, JCL, VSAM, DB2
* Lead client onboarding, customizations, integrations, and migrations—balancing speed, quality, and risk
Qualifications
* Experience managing engineers (and managers/tech leads), coaching, performance management, and career growth.
* Experience in mainframe software engineering (design, performance, and operations).
* Hands-on expertise with Unix Operating systems, CICS, Batch, JCL, COBOL (design, debugging, optimization), Excel VBA and macros, SAS or WPS & Rexx
* Working knowledge of z/OS, VSAM, DB2, RACF, and job schedulers (e.g., Control‑M, CA‑7).
* Experience running multi-team delivery (roadmaps, dependencies, risks, and budgets).
* Excellent partner management and communication across engineering, product, compliance, and client-facing functions.
