An exciting opportunity to join Kenyon Ward, nursing up to 22 patients who have undergone complex surgery, supporting a team caring for patients with complex orthopaedic needs and adapting quickly in the event of patient deterioration.

Job description and responsibilities
* Under the direction of the Ward/Department Manager, provide skilled, high-quality nursing care within a multidisciplinary environment to ensure individualised and effective care.
* Contribute to good team spirit and high standards of nursing care; empower junior staff to develop clinical skills; facilitate communication within all care groups.
* Use ward/department resources to promote excellence in practice and address quality issues relevant to service delivery.
* Be accountable for maintaining own nursing practice, sustaining and improving knowledge and professional competence; deliver patient-centered care and uphold PREP standards as required by the NMC.
* Assist in leading and supporting staff, managing time and resources, and coordinating care plans with medical input for safe discharge.
* Maintain patient records in line with the Data Protection Act and NMC guidelines; ensure accuracy and up-to-date information for future reference.
* Administer medicines safely in accordance with national and Trust guidelines; support risk management and manual handling as required.
* Provide leadership to nursing, ward clerks and housekeeping team; act as a resource for junior colleagues; promote a positive working atmosphere and effective teamwork.
* Promote evidence-based care by integrating research into practice; respond to patient and relative concerns and liaise with multidisciplinary teams and community services.
Professional and clinical issues
* Maintain own nursing practice; engage in ongoing professional development and comply with NMC PREP standards.
* Lead care planning, assess needs, involve patients and their relatives, and evaluate care to achieve planned goals.
* Ensure safety of patients and belongings; protect confidentiality and provide diverse, equitable care in line with Trust policies.
* Support MECC and health promotion activities; identify learning needs and plan education accordingly.
* Develop and maintain comprehensive patient records; ensure compliance with Data Protection Act and NMC guidelines.
* Coordinate discharges with families, Allied Health Professionals and community services.
Skills and qualifications
Essential
* Registered General Nurse with current NMC registration
* High level of communication skills and ability to work within a team
* Adaptability to changing pressures of work; basic computer skills
Desirable
* Post-registration orthopaedic qualification
* Assessors qualification
* Able to take charge of the team; venepuncture, cannulation, central venous devices and their management
Other requirements
* UK Registration: Applicants must have current UK professional registration
* Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check required
