Job Description Fans & Compressors Product Designer Full-time Bristol/Hybrid What you will be doing Rolls-Royce is leading the propulsion development for the Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP), creating the next-generation engine for the Tempest fighter jet. As a Fans & Compressors Product Designer within the Global Mechanical Systems Capability team in Bristol, you’ll apply your expertise in product design to support the full engineering lifecycle. You’ll be involved in resolving complex problems, defining system requirements, designing and integrating components, conducting technical analysis, and verifying product performance—ensuring every element meets both physical and functional expectations. Responsibilities As a Fans & Compressors Product Designer, you’ll apply your understanding of gas turbine operation and system interactions to support the design and development of advanced propulsion systems. Your responsibilities will include: Creating and refining product system designs using Systems Engineering principles and robust design tools. Investigating and resolving technical issues, including managing root cause analyses and coordinating with multiple stakeholders. Defining and managing system-level requirements and ensuring appropriate flow-down to component level. Supporting design changes and technical approvals throughout the product lifecycle. Coordinating design and verification activities across multidisciplinary teams, including those in different locations. Why Rolls-Royce? Strong technical understanding of mechanical design, with awareness of related disciplines such as manufacturing, aerodynamics, thermodynamics, and cost engineering. A logical and analytical approach to solving complex technical problems, balancing both engineering and business needs. Familiarity with product integrity, certification frameworks, and associated regulatory requirements. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present and influence at all levels. Professional membership preferred (e.g. working towards or holding Chartered status in the UK, or equivalent regionally).
