Senior Democratic Services Officer
Salary: £38,220 up to £42,839 per annum pro rata
Grade: 7
Location: Hinckley, Leicestershire (Hybrid working available)
Contract: Permanent, 37 hours per week
About the role
Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council is seeking an experienced Senior Democratic Services Officer to play a key role in supporting the Council’s democratic, decision making and governance processes. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled democratic services professional with strong knowledge of local government law, governance, constitutional arrangements and committee management to work at the heart of local democracy.
What you will be doing
* Supporting the Council’s democratic and decision making processes, including Council, Executive, regulatory and scrutiny committees and working groups
* Providing professional governance and constitutional advice to members and officers
* Managing and developing the modern.gov decision management system
* Maintaining forward plans, calendars of meetings and scrutiny work programmes
* Supporting overview and scrutiny activities, including task and finish groups
* Providing support to members and the civic function
* Supporting the corporate complaints process
About you
You will be a confident and organised professional with substantial experience in a democratic services or governance environment.
Essential criteria
* Significant experience in democratic services, governance or committee administration
* Strong knowledge of local government legislation, constitutions and political processes
* Experience advising elected members and senior officers
* Experience managing committee management systems
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage conflicting priorities and tight deadlines
* Political awareness, discretion, tact and diplomacy
