The job itself
About the role
Applicants wanted to work with a 16-year-old young man with autism and diabetes. Training will be provided for the diabetes management.
This young person can be initially reserved with new people but once they get to know someone provides an opportunity for an engaging and rewarding relationship for both applicant and young person. This young person is lively, funny and very strong willed. They enjoy partaking in active activities such as going to the gym, football and high adrenaline activities such as theme park rides.
This young person can struggle in busy environments and due to their strong-willed nature can refuse to do certain activities initially until trust is built.
Any applicants should have experience of working with SEN needs. They must also be diabetes management trained or be willing to be trained in it. They must also be reliable and strong willed and able to build up relationships with others. The applicant must also be a driver due to this young persons location.
The successful candidate will be responsible for:

2. Helping to improve their social skills.
3. Settling and supporting the individual.
4. Keeping them safe in the community.
5. Helping to fulfil their potential and aspirations.
6. Attending/transporting the individual to social activities and appointments.
7. Encouraging social interaction and inclusion and providing emotional support.

9. Be patient, caring and understanding.
10. Be able to build a positive relationship with the child to both encourage and support them.
11. Be flexible to meet the needs of the family.
12. Have knowledge of working with or supporting a child with special needs.
