Overview
South Warwickshire University NHS Foundation Trust is recruiting for a Stroke Rehabilitation Therapy Assistant at Leamington Rehabilitation Hospital (Feldon Stroke Rehabilitation Unit). The closing date is 05 November 2025.

This post is a dual role, working between the occupational therapy and physiotherapy teams to develop neurological rehabilitation skills with a wide variety of patients.
Our Neurological OT teams include qualified therapists, support workers and practitioners working closely with the wider MDT to provide therapy assessments and interventions in this specialist area. We provide rehabilitation for patients with brain injury and stroke, with teamwork underpinned by our Trust values to provide a safe, inclusive and compassionate service. A high level of personal and time management skills and previous healthcare experience are essential.
Your knowledge and experience will contribute to clinical audits and service reviews that demonstrate standards expected from the Care Quality Commission, COT and HCPC professional standards.
Main duties of the job
To support the therapists and work as part of the multidisciplinary team to provide a high quality Stroke service within Warwickshire.
To provide some administrative support to the department.

Job responsibilities
Clinical
To gain informed consent for treatment in accordance with Trust policy, often with patients/carers who may have diverse or complex emotional, physical and psychological conditions and will require verbal and non-verbal communication tools.
To develop and deliver therapy treatment programmes using guidelines set by qualified therapists, e.g. patient education, exercise programmes or classes.
Evaluate patient progress, reassess and alter treatment programmes after discussion with qualified therapists.
To ensure own competency before using medical devices, e.g. gym equipment, hoists and mobility aids.
To ensure own competency when issuing equipment to patients, e.g. patient appliances, splints and other aids.
Maintain accurate documentation both written and electronic in accordance with guidelines.
To hold responsibility for own caseload within a defined area of the service and work without direct supervision.
To maintain a clean, tidy and safe environment and equipment in Trust premises, with due regard for Health and Safety.
To use clinical knowledge to assess and manage clinical risk within own scope of practice.
To work within infection control guidelines to prevent infection risk to staff, patients and visitors.
Support other therapy assistants as required.
To collect clinical data relevant to the service as required.
To achieve and maintain necessary competencies required to fulfil the role.
Communication
To communicate effectively with patients, carers and relatives to maximise rehabilitation potential through verbal and non-verbal methods, including explanation, instruction, motivation and reassurance.
To be committed to a team approach for continuity and efficiency of service provision.
To liaise with multidisciplinary teams and colleagues as required.
To take formal handover from wards in the absence of the therapists.
Other
To order general stores and equipment for the department and maintain adequate stocks, liaising with the manager for authorisation.
To carry out administrative duties as required, including data input, typing, filing and reception cover.
To attend meetings as designated by senior therapists.
To identify opportunities to improve the inpatient Stroke service to provide the best patient care within resources.
To contribute to the out of hours service.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) or willingness to work towards
* GCSE (or equivalent) pass in English and Maths
* Evidence of CPD maintained in a portfolio, including certificates from relevant courses or training
Experience
* Previous experience in a healthcare setting and/or working with people with a variety of physical conditions and/or working as a therapy assistant
* Experience of working as part of a team
* Previous experience in NHS hospital or community setting
Skills
* Ability to present information clearly in writing and orally
* Ability to organise, prioritise and delegate
* Understanding of data protection, equal opportunities and health and safety policies and meeting patient needs
* Ability to keep accurate notes
* Ability to cope in a stressful environment and with emotional or challenging patients and carers
* Problem solving
* Excellent command of English
* Good written, verbal and non-verbal communication skills
* Experience supervising other staff
