Terumo Aortic are seeking a Product Development Engineer - Innovation Advanced Design, responsible for the Innovation and Advanced Design activities as part of the technical feasibility process in R&D (Pre Design Control SCF related activity. Working within the SCF Process, in collaboration with marketing, to identify Innovation opportunities and develop Proof of Concept prototypes for new products and services (mainly Class III medical devices) to meet user needs, technical feasibility and commercial viability requirements. Driving new IP developments and maintaining up to date information for R&D on relevant IP Landscapes. The Key responsibilities of the role are; Forming part of a cross functional Product Development team, with responsibility for the translation of design inputs into new product designs that satisfy the requirements of product performance, manufacturability, quality and regulatory compliance Driving the innovation of new ideas & evaluation of concepts Liaison with customers including surgeons and medical professionals to establish new product requirements Responsible for research (including support of Academic Collaborations) to ensure in-depth understanding of clinical problems and potential solutions, with knowledge transfer across the department, to drive Innovation. Responsible for component or device design, including fully dimensioned CAD drawings, material selection meeting biocompatibility requirements, supplier liaising, prototyping and evaluation testing, etc Responsible for design related Risk Analysis (Design FMEA) Responsible for definition of Design Verification protocols, data analysis and report generation Responsible for ensuring that design activity is documented per Design Control requirements Internal liaison and knowledge transfer to Manufacturing, Quality, Clinical Services and Marketing Work to complete SCF deliverables and present results to Strategic Review Team, and participation in Product Pipeline Prioritisation activities Responsible for IP-related activities, including liaising with inventors and IP counsel to file new NIDs and support patent application processes As required, authority, accountability and day-to-day responsibility for delivering project in line with agreed objectives Accountable to Director of Research and Innovation for implementation of project plan The successful candidate will possess; Engineering Graduate BSc (or Equivalent) in Product Design Engineering, or relevant discipline Relevant previous experience. Experience using Design Thinking processes to develop and evaluate new product concepts to meet user needs Experience of hands-on prototyping and testing Knowledge of, and experience with, a range of technologies, processes and materials Experience of IP (patent searching, landscaping and NID filing) would be beneficial Proven ability to work effectively as part of a team Clear and efficient communication skills Planning & organising skills with ability to work to deadlines Effective decision maker Effective presentation skills (MS PowerPoint) Ability to document work in line with Design Control & Quality Systems including FMEA Working knowledge of CAD (Solidworks), Excel and Word.
