Founder + Psychotherapist at Gentle Growth Therapy Hello! My name is Maria (she/her), and I’m the founder of Gentle Growth — Brighton & Hove’s first queer and neuro-affirming counselling and psychotherapy practice, working with children, young people and adults. As the practice grows, I’m looking to welcome another therapist into the space. This is a chance to join a community-rooted service that centres lived experience, social justice, and relational depth.
Location: Hove (Poet’s Corner) or Location of Your Therapy Room / In Person Work
Start Date: Flexible/Summer 2025 or later
Role Type: Self-employed, part-time
Fee Split: 70/30% (more explained below)
About Gentle Growth
We are a queer and neurodivergent-led counselling practice offering queer and neuro-affirming, sliding-scale, integrative therapy for people of all ages — particularly those navigating life as LGBTQIA+, neurodivergent, GSRD, and/or multiply marginalised.
Our clients may identify as
ADHD, autistic, adult adoptees, adopters, asexual, bisexual, consensually/ethically non-monogamous, disabled, formerly in care, fat, foster carers, gay, genderfluid, genderqueer, GSRD, highly sensitive, immigrants, intersex, kinky, lesbian, monogamous, neurodivergent/neurospicy, non-binary, pansexual, polyamorous, queer, questioning, refugees/asylum-seekers, sex workers, survivors of trauma of conversion therapy, therapeutic parents, trans — and beyond.
I work both in person (from a cosy room in Hove’s Poet’s Corner) and online via Zoom, supporting people with a wide range of issues including trauma, identity exploration, relationships, family dynamics, grief, anxiety, depression, neurodivergence, body image, and self-esteem. I'm looking mostly for a practitioner working in person but online work can also be included.
Candidate Specification
Qualifications + Values
Qualified (Minimum CPCAB Level 4/Diploma/Degree or equivalent) BACP-registered therapist who
Has lived experience of being LGBTQIA+, GSRD and/or neurodivergent (ADHD, Autism, PDA etc.)
Shares our commitment to anti-oppressive, anti-racist, anti-TERF and anti-SWERF practice
Is experienced in working with adults and/or young people in a relational, trauma-informed and attachment-aware way
Works integratively, creatively, and with sensitivity to intersectionality and systemic harm
Has strong humanistic background and shares our values (more on our website here https://www.gentlegrowth.co.uk/our-values)
Understands trauma and its effects, neurodivergence and its types and symptoms, attachment theory, principles of anti-oppressive and anti-racist practice
Knows and Adheres to Principles Of Gender, Sex And Relationship Diversity (GSRD) Therapy
Your Personal Approach
A good candidate:
Is warm, self-reflective, approachable, and values emotional accessibility
Works in a relational, collaborative way where clients feel seen, heard, understood and where they get the sense of feeling compassion, empathy, non-judgement, support
Can take on clients during days/times I am unavailable — especially any of the following: Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesday evenings, Thursdays daytime, Fridays, or weekends (although there's a lot of flexibility here)
Is enrolled in regular supervision
Holds professional insurance
Is interested in breaking the barriers put in place by the heteronormative, mononormative, racist, LGBTQIA+-phobic, anti-ableist, capitalist and imperialist systems.
Knows what terms TERF and SWERF mean
Is dedicated to learning and developing their knowledge/understanding of the above
Has basic internet admin skills to reply to emails, book therapy rooms, use online calendars etc
What we can offer
70/30 split where you keep 70% of the client's fee and where we keep the remaining 30% to cover the admin, client management, memberships and ads, GDPR admin, running the website and additional advertising cost. In reality, this means that if a client pays £50 for a session, you will get paid £35/h and we will get paid the £15 fee. [Where you cover the booking fee of the therapy room/provide a therapy space of your own choosing] - This can be negotiated.
A flow of clients looking for weekly/fortnightly counselling/psychotherapy
A lovely warm space to discuss work/life issues (although I am not a supervisor we can run peer-to-peer supervision together)
A LOT of tea
Materials including art, play, sand-tray and clay therapy (if you end up using the same room I do)
Access to a lovely therapy room in Poet's Corner in Hove or choice of using your own favourite room (room fee paid by you)
Your counselling modality and years of experience
I do not specify the length of your experience or which specific modality I'd like you to practice as I believe in very personalised approach to working with clients. It doesn't matter to me if you're newly qualified, as long as I can verify your placement/your supervision/your qualifications.
You will probably have your own specific mix/integration of different techniques/modalities which work for you best. I care about your values more than about your theory. I'm not looking for a copy of me but for an authentic, dedicated therapist who naturally shares our values and wants to work with queer and neurodivergent people.
If this sounds at all like you, please let me know via Google Form linked in this LinkedIn Ad.
If you fail to include the required information or not follow the word-limit restriction, I will not reply to your submission.
