Role Summary

Do you have an interest in Acute Oncology? Would you like to further develop your Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) skills while supporting cancer patients experiencing complications related to their disease or treatment?

If so, this could be the ideal opportunity for you.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Band 8a Acute Oncology Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) to join our team on a -month fixed-term basis to provide maternity leave cover (secondment opportunities will be considered).

The ACP will be an autonomous clinician who delivers expert assessment, diagnosis, and management of patients presenting with cancer-related emergencies and treatment toxicities.

Working across the four pillars of advanced practice - clinical practice, leadership, education, and research - the post holder will work within the AO team to lead complex clinical decision-making and independent prescribing. The ACP will also support service development, multidisciplinary collaboration, and the implementation of evidence-based practice to optimise patient outcomes and reduce unnecessary hospital admissions.

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic ACP to join our dynamic Acute Oncology Team. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a specialist service providing expert care to patients presenting with complications related to cancer or treatment toxicities.

About the Role
The service delivers:

1. A telephone triage helpline
2. Oncology Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC)
3. Inpatient ward rounds
4. Support for patients with Malignancy of Unknown Origin (MUO) and Cancer of Unknown Primary (CUP)

The role involves expert assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and discharge of patients within the emergency care setting.

Key Responsibilities

5. Assess, diagnose, and manage patients with complex acute oncology needs
6. Review and manage treatment-related toxicities, urgent disease complications and patients with suspected cancer, ensuring timely intervention and admission avoidance.
7. Act as a clinical expert, providing specialist advice and guidance to the wider multidisciplinary team
8. Support education, teaching, and mentorship of junior staff
9. Contribute to the development of evidence-based practice, including audits and research projects
10. Work collaboratively across teams to improve patient flow and reduce unnecessary hospital admissions

This role offers a fantastic opportunity to develop advanced clinical skills within a supportive and forward-thinking team, while making a meaningful difference to patient care.

Working hours per week. Monday - Sunday 8 am - 6 pm (Including bank holidays)
