The role is to assist the Workshop Team Leader in being responsible to the Chief Engineer for Part-145 C-rated mechanical and structural component maintenance/repair activities and Part-21 mechanical and structural component manufacturing tasks essential to delivering customer contractual requirements. Aircraft maintenance is highly regulated and safety, quality and regulatory compliance are the top priorities.
Operational activities are based around customer requirements; therefore, preparedness to work additional hours to deliver a successful maintenance business is essential.
Key Responsibilities
* Safety first. Operate in accordance with SHE standards and procedures. Apply safe systems of work identified for appointed operations/tasks.
* Assemble aircraft components from a kit in line with drawings and specifications using methods of assembly (solid and blind riveting, bolting).
* Manufacture metal detail components requiring bending and detail fitting techniques; complete documentation and report problems promptly.
* Understand and interpret technical drawings.
* Maintain/repair Draken & customer mechanical and structural components per manufacturers and Draken procedures.
* Liaise with necessary departments to complete tasks; certify work within company authorisation.
* Ensure compliance with published Company Procedures and that test equipment is calibrated and recorded.
* Manage documentation to ensure required entries are correctly recorded.
* Keep work areas clean and tidy; highlight tooling requirements and assist with procurement when needed.
* Maintain facility cleanliness; ensure equipment and employee facilities are maintained within working areas.
* Ensure tooling and test equipment are serviceable/calibrated and fit to carry out functions before use.
* Propose changes within the workplace and support Continuous Improvement initiatives.
* Attend technical, SHE and Compliance training as required and identify training needs.
* Report hazards using current company reporting systems; comply with all company policies and seek guidance when in doubt.
* Other tasks within their sphere of influence and obtain/maintain required Security Clearances.
Personal Skills / Qualifications
* Excellent communication skills.
* Good technical English (written and spoken) and basic mathematics.
* Self-starter who seeks solutions and can work to tight deadlines and budgetary requirements.
* Customer-focused with strong personal and communication skills.
* Self-motivated, confident and assertive; able to work within organisational values.
* Medically fit for daily engineering duties including detachment work; willingness to work shift patterns.
* Security cleared to meet current UK and ITAR requirements; willingness to progress to Approved Workshop Engineer.
Educational / Vocational Qualifications
* Apprenticeship or HM Forces equivalent training certification.
* Formal mechanical engineering qualification, preferably BTEC Level 3 or above.
* Experience in aviation maintenance/manufacturing facility; knowledge of aircraft structures and repair techniques.
* Knowledge of sheet metal forming and detail fitting processes; ability to work with precision measuring tools and to tight tolerances.
* Proven production delivery capability.
