Data Privacy Specialist Location:
London, Canary Wharf (Hybrid – 3 days per week in office) Duration:
6 months (no scope for extension at present; potential for permanency depending on future hiring needs) Overall Purpose of the Role Barclays is seeking
three experienced Data Privacy Specialists
to join Group Compliance on a 6-month contract. This team will support the
Privacy Transformation Programme, a strategic initiative to standardise and automate key processes for managing data privacy risk across Barclays UK, Barclays Europe, BX, and PLC entities. The successful candidates will help design, enhance, and implement the Bank’s
Data Privacy Framework, ensuring compliance with regulatory obligations, supporting oversight teams, and embedding best practice across first and second lines of defence. Key Responsibilities Support the
design, implementation, and automation
of data privacy processes as part of the Privacy Transformation Programme.
Provide
specialist expertise
to Business Oversight Compliance teams across multiple Barclays legal entities.
Act as a point of contact with
Data Protection Authorities (DPAs), including supporting regulatory reporting, breach notifications, and investigations.
Develop and maintain
policies, procedures, and frameworks
relating to data privacy risk management.
Support
standardisation across the bank, including implementation of the third-party platform
OneTrust
for privacy management.
Provide education and awareness training to employees on data privacy obligations and responsibilities.
Contribute to regulatory engagements, risk assessments, and internal compliance monitoring.
Collaborate with Legal, 1LoD SMEs, and Compliance colleagues to ensure a coordinated and effective approach to data privacy risk.
Skills & Experience Essential: Proven experience as a
Data Privacy Specialist
within a
Tier 1 bank or financial institution .
Strong knowledge of
data protection regulations
(UK, EU, and global frameworks).
Demonstrated exposure to working with or responding to
regulators .
Ability to operate autonomously, delivering high-quality outputs to tight deadlines.
Experience working in
compliance-driven environments
with oversight responsibilities.
Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
Desirable: IAPP (CIPP/E, CIPM, CIPT)
or
BCS Data Protection Certification .
Practical experience with
OneTrust
or other common privacy platforms.
Experience delivering
compliance transformation programmes .
Knowledge of breach management processes and incident reporting.
