Join to apply for the Senior Highway Adoptions Inspector role at City of York Council.
We require a S278/ 38 Works inspector to work within our Highway Adoptions team. Are you keen on detail and quality control? This role involves supervising highway works to ensure developers construct works in accordance with agreed designs to safeguard the integrity of new or altered highways provided as part of development across the city that are to become maintainable at public expense. This role would suit a Civil Engineering/ Highway Clerk of Works or Highway Supervisor looking for a new challenge.
Responsibilities
* Ensure Compliance: Monitor and inspect development sites to make sure that all highway work aligns with approved designs, specifications and council requirements.
* Act with Integrity: As the representative of City of York Council, maintain a strong, impartial position. Ensure developments meet agreed standards – keeping our roads safe, functional and fit for the future.
* Problem-Solve on the Ground: Spend time on site, making quick decisions to resolve issues as they arise, from maintaining traffic flow to ensuring contractors work safely.
* Liaise with Developers & Contractors: Collaborate with developers and contractors to ensure work is carried out to the highest standards required by our engineering team.
You’ll Need
* Demonstrable experience of checking and accepting or rejecting workmanship in civil engineering/ highway works
* Strong integrity and impartiality, ensuring objective decision-making
* Excellent communication and problem-solving skills to work directly with developers, contractors and our engineers
* A full UK driving licence and the ability to work both in the office and on-site. We will supply the van.

* As this role is public facing, applicants will need to demonstrate, at interview, their competency to converse and provide advice and guidance to members of the public, in spoken English to CEFR level C1.
* Hybrid working arrangements are available. Your contractual location will be the designated council office for your team.
