Main duties of the job
This post is for 10 Programmed Activities (PAs) per week to work within Acute Oncology at The Christie Withington site. The consultant will provide senior input in the areas of Outpatient clinics, Inpatient Services and Multi‑Disciplinary Team meetings.
* Daily consultant ward round and management of all non‑surgical admissions to the acute assessment unit.
* Liaise with parent oncology teams to provide optimal patient care.
* Management of patients with Breast, Lung or HPB cancer, including clinical trial involvement and treatment decisions.
* Participate in clinical governance, maintaining protocols, guidelines and participating in clinical audit under supervision of other consultants.
* Contribute to current research projects and develop new opportunities for research.
* Revise and develop evidence‑based protocols and undertake associated administrative duties.
* Maintain a level of continuing professional development consistent with Royal College recommendations.
* Contribute to undergraduate teaching of medical students on oncology topics.
* Provide lectures for the postgraduate teaching programme.
* Actively support the training of junior doctors and other multi‑disciplinary team members.
* Undertake clinical audit as a member of The Christie Medical Staff Committee.
Qualifications
* Entry on the General Medical Council (GMC) specialist register: Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) (proposed CCT date within 6 months of interview) or Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration.
* Relevant clinical and research experience in Medical Oncology, including Good Clinical Practice accreditation.
* Experience in teaching undergraduates and postgraduate students.
* Demonstrated experience in clinical audit.
