JOB TITLE: Teacher - Post-Primary
REPORTS TO: Principal
Professional Duties of a Teacher
As outlined in the Teachers’ (Terms and Conditions of Employment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1987, Schedule 3, Regulation 5, a teacher (excluding the principal) shall perform professional duties as required, including:
* Carrying out duties under the reasonable direction of the school principal or, if employed by a board, under the direction of the board and applicable principal.
* Performing particular duties reasonably assigned by the principal or the board, including planning, teaching, assessment, student guidance, and participation in school meetings.
Key Responsibilities
1. Planning: Preparing courses and lessons, teaching students, assessing and reporting on their progress.
2. General Duties: Promoting student well-being, providing guidance, communicating with parents, and collaborating with external bodies.
3. Assessment/Reporting: Contributing to assessments, reports, and references for pupils.
4. Staff Development: Participating in professional development, reviewing teaching methods, and developing courses and materials.
5. Discipline and Safety: Maintaining order and safeguarding students' health and safety.
6. Examinations: Preparing students for public exams, assessing, and supervising during exams.
7. Management Activities: Contributing to staff recruitment, managing colleagues, and participating in curriculum and organizational development.
8. Work Schedule: Available for 195 days annually, with specific hours and duties as determined by the principal, including supervision and administrative tasks.
9. Staff Cover: Providing cover for absent teachers under specified conditions.

Section 1 - Essential Criteria
* Qualifications: Recognized teaching qualification for grant-aided schools in Northern Ireland and a degree or equivalent Level 6 qualification in English.
* Experience: Minimum of 2 years teaching English at Key Stage 3 and 4, using diverse teaching strategies and digital media.
* Registration: Must be registered with the GTCNI before starting.
Section 2 - Additional Essential Criteria
* Knowledge of NI Curriculum, Safeguarding, SEND Code of Practice, assessment methods, and IT systems.
* Skills: Effective classroom management, inclusive teaching, teamwork, and communication skills.
* Values: Alignment with the school’s values and ethos.
Section 3 - Desirable Criteria
* Experience delivering GCSE English Literature with added value.
* Willingness to support literacy initiatives and extracurricular activities.
