Key responsibilities of Emergency Care Assistant (ECA)
Patient Flow Management: ECAs act as "runners", ensuring that patients are moved efficiently through the various stages of their care. They help maintain a smooth and organised patient flow, which is vital for timely and effective treatment.
Chaperone Service: This is particularly important to ensure patient comfort, dignity, and compliance with relevant regulations and guidelines.
Observations: ECAs are trained to perform basic patient observations, which can include monitoring vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse rate, respiratory rate, and temperature. This information is critical for assessing a patient's condition.
Sample Collection: ECAs are capable of collecting various samples, such as blood for laboratory testing, conducting electrocardiograms (ECGs), and performing urine tests. These tasks are essential for diagnosing and treating patients effectively.
Support to Clinicians: Collaborate with healthcare professionals for efficient care delivery.
Customer Service: Offer reassurance and comfort to patients and families.
Service Efficiency: Contribute to the smooth operation of our healthcare service.

Job Summary:
Dedicated to supporting patient flow management.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Collaborate closely with clinicians in the Same Day Urgent Care Centre and Emergency Department
2. Offer a warm welcome to patients, guide them through the process, and provide top-notch customer service.
3. Act as a Chaperone
4. Guarantee the readiness of all necessary items for each clinic
5. Set up consultation rooms with precision, ensuring the functionality of equipment.
6. Adhere to Infection and Prevention Control protocols.
7. Perform Basic Observations: monitoring vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse rate, respiratory rate, and temperature.
8. Sample Collection: such as blood for laboratory testing, conducting electrocardiograms (ECGs) to monitor heart activity, and performing urine tests.
9. Maintain the proper storage of equipment.
10. Uphold cleanliness standards in the clinic room.
11. Collect patient surveys.
Administrative Duties:
12. Uphold patient confidentiality and follow NHS protocols.
13. Provide exemplary customer service to patients and clients.
14. Foster effective communication by liaising with both clinical and administrative staff.
15. Manage internal and external communications professionally.
16. Use the clinical system to make, cancel, or rearrange appointments.
17. Apply service policies, standards, and guidelines to drive continuous improvement.
18. Propose and implement creative approaches to enhance work processes.
19. Promptly report potential risks and hazards.
20. Demonstrate familiarity with first aid and resuscitation principles.
21. Adhere to health and safety policies and procedures.
22. Report complaints, incidents, and risks to the Governance Manager.
23. Proactively manage time, workload, and resources to ensure efficiency.

28. Experience of working in primary, community or secondary care
29. or Experience of working in a GP practice
