This senior position sits in Programme & Project Delivery (PPD) and manages a technical team delivering studies and schemes that reduce flood risk to communities and enhance the environment.
Responsibilities
* Line management of a technical team; recruitment including resource planning, onboarding of new staff and inductions; training, coaching and mentoring.
* Programme management of a portfolio of work as Area Lead; troubleshooting and escalating project issues that project teams cannot resolve themselves.
* Build a positive working environment to bring out the best in high performing teams; encourage collaboration with customers and partners; support project, contract and risk management decisions; organise training for new starters and existing team members.
* Develop and maintain a resilient network of relationships with other team leaders to facilitate smooth project delivery; oversee a portion of the programme and track performance with corrective measures as needed.
* Respond to incidents as a central part of the role; be available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident (may attract additional payment and training; alternative working arrangements available).
Team and Workplace
Our award-winning team delivers sustainable asset management projects to reduce flood risk, deliver environmental improvements and reduce carbon. The Project Team Manager oversees 8-15 project management professionals within the flood and coastal erosion risk management programme.
Experience/Skills Required
* A degree (or equivalent) in engineering, environmental or geography related discipline; ideally with chartered membership of APMP, CIWEM, ICE or a management institute.
* Training in project, contract, HR or business management.
* Some technical knowledge useful for managing a technical team overseeing hydrology, river modelling, feasibility assessment, asset management, business case development, cost monitoring/forecasting, scope preparation, CDM, engineering design and construction.
* Significant experience in a project, contract and/or people management environment; flood & coastal risk management experience desirable but not essential.
* A proven track record delivering results through coordination of a technical team; ability to mentor and support teams; strong interpersonal and influencing skills for stakeholder management.
