Job Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Aseptic Services Accountable Pharmacist to lead and manage the Pharmacy Aseptic Unit. This senior role is responsible for ensuring full compliance with national standards, overseeing safe and cost‑effective aseptic preparation services, and providing expert pharmaceutical guidance across the Trust.
The postholder will act as the Accountable Pharmacist as defined in the Quality Assurance of Aseptic Preparation Services, providing strategic leadership across Cytotoxic Reconstitution, Parenteral Nutrition, and CIVAS services within Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust.
Key Responsibilities
* Act as the Trust Accountable Pharmacist for the Aseptic Unit, ensuring compliance with national Quality Assurance standards and relevant Medicines Act requirements.
* Lead, manage and develop all aspects of the Pharmacy Aseptic Unit, ensuring safe, efficient and high‑quality preparation of complex sterile injectable products.
* Provide expert clinical and technical advice on stability, compatibility, aseptic preparation processes, facilities, and associated risk management.
* Lead on the development and maintenance of the Pharmaceutical Quality System (PQS), internal audits, and quality improvement activities.
* Serve as the Trust lead for external audits (EL97, EL52), ensuring timely completion of corrective actions and ongoing compliance.
* Ensure effective professional supervision and operational governance under the Section 10 exemption of the Medicines Act 1968.
* Provide specialist advice to clinicians, nursing teams and service users regarding prescribing, preparation and administration of complex injectable medicines.
* Oversee environmental monitoring in line with national guidance, ensuring timely review and action where deviations occur.
* Produce regular service reports, including environmental monitoring results, CAPA updates, QER summaries, and workload statistics for senior pharmacy leadership.
* Lead long‑term capacity planning for aseptic services using capacity modelling tools and workload data.
* Contribute to Trust‑wide strategy for injectable medicines, identifying service development opportunities and capacity risks.
* Oversee computer systems used within aseptic services.
* Manage documentation, records, and retention schedules within the Aseptic Unit.
Qualifications & Experience
* Registered Pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
* Significant experience within hospital aseptic services, including technical and quality responsibilities.
* Strong knowledge of national QA standards for aseptic preparation.
* Experience in managing aseptic units under Section 10 exemption.
* Proven leadership and staff management skills.
* Excellent understanding of environmental monitoring, PQS, and risk management principles.
* Ability to provide advanced clinical and technical advice to multi‑disciplinary teams.
