Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Report Developer to join our newly established Strategic Performance and Information service for a period of 18 months.

In this role you will support delivery of statutory and corporate reporting requirements, including national data submissions to NHS England and other regulatory bodies. This includes assisting with data collection, validation, and reporting processes, and ensuring data quality and compliance with national standards.

The post holder will also be responsible for trouble shooting any data related issues that are escalated to the department and liaising with the wider team to ensure the issues are resolved and responded to.

You will support internal performance reporting, benchmarking submissions, and the development of data visualisations in collaboration with the wider reporting team.

You will have the ability to solve problems through effective questioning and investigation with a strong attention to detail and excellent communication and organisational skills.


Main duties of the job

* Develop and follow detailed procedures to prepare and submit data for all statutory and mandated reporting requirements ensuring statutory deadlines are met. This will involve using Microsoft Excel, Tableau and running SQL queries.
* Monitor internal information requests and provide initial triage and response.
* Participate in audits, FOIs, and ad-hoc information requests as required.
* Support the development and ongoing maintenance of the Trust’s management information system (Power BI/ Tableau)
* Support the development of internal dashboards and reports for corporate performance monitoring using Excel, SQL, and Power BI.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

· Develop and follow detailed procedures to prepare and submit data for all statutory and mandated reporting requirements ensuring statutory deadlines are met. This will involve using Microsoft Excel, Tableau and running SQL queries

· Work with senior analysts and corporate leads (e.g. HR, Finance, Digital) to gather, validate, and format data for submission.

· Maintain internal trackers and reporting templates to support timely and accurate submissions.

· Support the development of internal dashboards and reports for corporate performance monitoring using Excel, SQL, and Power BI.

* Collaborate with data visualisation leads to design and refine dashboards and visual outputs that communicate key performance insights clearly and effectively.

· Ensure data quality by identifying anomalies, performing validation checks, and escalating issues as needed.

· Interpret national guidance and support the translation of requirements into local data collection processes.

· Support the continued development and support the Trust’s management information system (Power BI/ Tableau) to ensure that this is aligned to the business requirements of the Trust and all appropriate reports/dashboards are developed to identified specifications within the given timescales.

· Maintain documentation of data definitions, processes, and submission schedules.

· Contribute to continuous improvement of reporting processes and tools

· Provide support and training across organisation in relation to data analysis and interpretation

· Participate in audits, FOIs, and ad-hoc information requests as required.

· Process highly sensitive data according to Information Governance requirements

· Monitor internal information requests and provide initial triage and response

· Maintain external reporting register and external information requests process

· Perform Tableau/ Power BI administration tasks such as user management, the creation of scheduled jobs, executing stored procedures and monitoring performance

Analysis and Data Management

· Analyse complex information to identify and solve a range of problems and support statistical report purposes (e.g. data quality issues, system errors, unexpected variation etc) to ensure understanding and remedial actions are undertaken as necessary.

· Identify the most appropriate data solutions using a range of data sources, analysis and resolution of complex data queries and discrepancies.

· Use basic analysis techniques to present findings from a received problem or information request

· Understand the complex data structures within the data warehouse to have an understanding of the products the team have produced so that you can provide end user support.

· Understand and translate basic SQL to aid issue resolution

Governance and Compliance

· Ensure compliance with data governance, GDPR, and confidentiality policies

· Assist in the development and documentation of data standards, definitions and metadata for consistent data use.

Communications and Leadership

· Provide and receive highly complex information regarding report development.

· Establish working relationships with the key operational, corporate and support staff representing that require data and analysis for decision making

· Work closely with clinical and corporate teams to promote use of data using Tableau /Power BI reports and dashboards, to manage performance and inform decision making.

· Promote the use of data across the Trust so that data is recognised as a key enabler for service development and improvement

· Provide specialist advice and training to groups of staff on how to use Tableau/Power BI

· Communicate effectively with all departments and external agencies to facilitate optimum efficiency (i.e. statutory bodies in relation to any challenges with submissions)

· Liaise with application suppliers and IT department on resolution of hardware, communications and networking problems.

· Interact with others in order to achieve the objectives or purpose of the post. This will range from co-operating with other team members to multi-agency working.

· Work as a full member of the Team in the planning and delivery with regard to the management of Tableau and associated systems

· Work as part of a development team using techniques from agile project management to deliver Trust critical projects where required.

Experience


Essential criteria

* •Experience working in a data visualisation, reporting or in an information role, ideally within the NHS or a healthcare setting.
* •Experience of working with large and complex datasets.
* •Experience using analytical tools and software such as SQL, Excel, Power BI, or similar.


Desirable criteria

* •Experience of using and creating reports using Tableau (or similar business intelligence/data visualisation tools)


Knowledge


Essential criteria

* •Knowledge of NHS reporting requirements and submissions
* •Clear understanding of NHS performance targets and healthcare datasets is desirable
