Clinical Nurse Specialist for Acute Oncology and Lung Cancer
This is a new and exciting role, working alongside both the Acute Oncology Service (AOS) and the lung cancer team. We are looking for a passionate individual, willing to develop their skills in acute oncology and lung cancer.
The AOS provides urgent assessment, rapid initial management and appropriate specialist input for any patient presenting acutely with problems relating to cancer or its treatment.
The respiratory service provides care for patients with lung cancer throughout their cancer journey. Nearly half of the acute oncology patients have a lung cancer diagnosis.
The post holder will work within the multi-professional team, delivering care to Acute oncology patients and lung Cancer patients within the Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board (CTMUHB).
Main duties of the job
The aim of the service is to provide rapid identification and appropriate prompt management of patients that present with:
* previously undiagnosed cancer
* complications as a direct consequence of their cancer
* acute complications following cancer therapy
The CNS will provide clinical support and expertise in acute oncology assessment in the emergency admission areas, provide early input of Specialist Oncologist assessment and clinical management advice for unscheduled oncology emergency admissions.
The post holder will share the responsibility for a defined caseload of Acute Oncology patients, with a focus on lung cancer and will be expected to triage the referrals on a daily basis in order to prioritise their workload.

Job responsibilities
Clinical Duties: Assess patients admitted as an emergency and ensure they are receiving appropriate care and investigations as per agreed pathways.
Service Management: Assist in the development of care pathways for the Acute Oncology Service.
Service Improvement: Develop services to meet local/national objectives and standards.
Communication: Establish and maintain effective communication with patients, family and carers to assess needs, providing relevant support, information, education, advice and counselling as required for cancer related issues.
Person Specification
Qualifications: Evidence of continued professional development, Sound clinical knowledge and experience of oncological emergencies.
Experience: Relevant post registration Experience, Evidence of good communications skills.
General: Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
