Practice Manager / Senior Finance & Operations Manager
Portsmouth (Office-based with flexibility)
£30,000 - £50,000 DOE | Permanent | Full-time or Part-time (flexible hours)
About the Role
We are proud to be partnering with a dynamic and forward-thinking accountancy practice in Portsmouth, who are looking to appoint a Practice Manager / Senior Finance & Operations Manager.
This is a blended role combining practice management with hands-on accountancy delivery. You'll be responsible for overseeing internal operations and workflow, while also supporting key areas of bookkeeping, accounts preparation, and technical file review.
This is an exciting opportunity to step into a leadership role where you will play a key part in shaping and streamlining practice operations, driving efficiency, and ensuring an excellent client experience.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage the full client journey-from onboarding through ongoing service delivery
* Oversee team workflow, task allocation, and deadline management
* Maintain and improve internal templates, processes, and systems
* Identify opportunities to streamline recurring tasks and reduce duplication
* Lead weekly operational reporting to the partners (resourcing, performance updates)
* Maintain action logs, authorisation records, compliance registers
* Support pricing, quoting, delivery tracking to ensure profitability and consistency
* Manage internal communications and help drive team accountability
* Oversee onboarding of new clients (AML and professional clearance)
* Ensure consistent systems usage across the team and maintain documentation
* Support internal training and process adherence
* Provide oversight on bookkeeping, VAT returns, and accounts preparation
* Review client files and reports for accuracy and completeness
* Assist with technical queries and complex reconciliations
* Support the delivery team during busy periods to meet deadlines
What We're Looking For
Experience working in UK accountancy practice (essential)
Strong understanding of practice operations and client service delivery
Highly organised, process-driven, detail-focused
Strong communicator - comfortable working with partners, staff, and clients
Proficient in cloud-based accountancy systems (e.g. Xero, QuickBooks)
Adaptable and confident in learning new technologies
Recognised accountancy qualification (ACCA, ACA, or similar) desirable - but experienced candidates without formal qualifications will also be considered based on operational/technical capability
