This role plays a key part in developing and improving AP Racing’s Race and Road products by ensuring robust test execution and detailed, data driven feedback into the engineering process. The position requires a self starter who can work independently, take initiative, and drive testing tasks through to completion.
The Role
Test Planning & Execution:
* Plan, prepare, and conduct bench tests and dynamometer tests, ensuring configurations and test conditions align with specifications and customer requirements.
* Work closely with Development Technicians to define test setups, instrumentation, and rig configurations.
* Ensure accurate and repeatable execution of test procedures following AP Racing methodologies and quality standards.
Data Analysis & Reporting:
* Analyse test data to evaluate product performance, durability, and functionality.
* Identify trends, anomalies, and potential issues, proposing engineering solutions or further validation actions.
* Produce detailed, clear, and structured engineering test reports for internal engineering teams and customers.
* Maintain test documentation, results databases, and traceability records.
Cross-functional & Customer Interaction:
* Communicate test progress, outcomes, and recommendations to the internal engineering team in a clear and timely manner.
* Support technical discussions with external customers regarding test methods, results, and product behaviour.
* Participate in cross-functional development reviews, offering technical insights and feedback from testing activities.
* Participate in the improvement of testing methodologies, fixtures, and procedures to enhance data quality, repeatability, and efficiency.
* Stay current with industry trends, new technologies, and best practices related to testing, data analysis, and product development.
* Support the development of new test rigs and procedures under the guidance of the Senior Test Engineer.
Quality, Safety & Housekeeping:
* Ensure all testing activities comply with internal quality standards and relevant industry standards (TS16949 / ISO9001).
* Adhere to safety protocols and maintain a safe working environment at all times.
* Take responsibility for good housekeeping practices by maintaining an organised, clean, and safe workspace.
This includes ensuring tools, equipment, instrumentation, and test components are stored correctly, kept in good condition, and always returned to their designated locations to support efficient and safe test operations.
* Previous experience in an R&D, test, or validation role within automotive, motorsport, industrial, or related engineering sectors.
* Experience with hydraulics, mechanical testing, or rotating machinery is advantageous.
* Familiarity with dyno or test rig operation is preferred but not essential; training will be provided.
* Degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or similar relevant discipline.
* Alternative technical qualifications supported by strong relevant experience will be considered.
What We Want From You
* Strong knowledge of testing methodologies, data acquisition systems, and measurement techniques.
* Proven ability to analyse technical data and draw meaningful, accurate conclusions.
* Competence with data analysis and visualisation tools (e.g., Excel, MATLAB, LabVIEW, or similar).
* Good problem solving ability and a methodical, detail driven approach to test work and reporting.
* Effective communication skills, capable of explaining technical information clearly to both internal and external stakeholders.
* Hands on capability in mechanical or hydraulic systems assembly and test preparation.
* Ability to manage multiple test programs simultaneously and prioritise effectively in a fast paced environment.
* Self motivated, proactive mindset with a strong can do attitude, able to take initiative and drive tasks forward independently.
* Proficient with Microsoft Office and general PC literacy.
* Continuous improvement mindset and willingness to adopt new tools, techniques, and methodologies.
