Finance Manager

Salary Range: £36,000

Location: UKIM Central Office, European Islamic Centre, 79 Manchester Road, Oldham OL8 4LN

Contract Type: Fixed-term (2-year contract) likely to be extended to Permanent

Department: Finance Department

Direct Reporting Line: Executive Director

Additional Reporting Line: National Treasurer & Chair, Finance & General-Purpose Committee (F&GPC) (Trustees Sub-committee)

Probationary Period: Six Months (can be extended) There will be an interim review of performance

Senior Management Team: This position is part of the Senior Management Team (SMT)

Staff Supervision: The post holder will be directly supervising the following staff
• 3 x Senior Finance Officers
• 1 x Finance Officer
• 1 x Finance Assistant
• Coordination with any external consultants/ auditors engaged

UK Islamic Mission (UKIM) is one of the premier faith based civil society organisations working in the UK since 1962, to serve the needs of the Muslim community in the UK. UKIM is going through a major organisational reform to re-establish itself as an effective civil society organisation and fulfil its mission. The reform includes major changes at governance and executive level and relocating its Head Office from London to Oldham.

Brief about the role

UKIM is looking for an experienced individual with demonstrated relevant experience of finance and accounting, along with suitable relevant qualifications, diverse skills and sector knowledge.

The Finance Manager is a key leadership role responsible for the strategic and operational oversight of UKIM's financial management. This role ensures robust financial governance, transparency, and accountability across all UKIM operations, including its central office, departments, and branches. The Finance Manager will provide expert financial guidance to support UKIM's strategic and charitable objectives and ensure compliance with statutory requirements and charity regulations. The post holder will work closely with and be accountable to the UKIM Treasurer in maintaining effective financial oversight and governance.

Key Responsibilities
• Lead UKIM's finance function including financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting.
• Prepare and present timely and accurate financial reports to the Board of Trustees, Executive Director, and other stakeholders.
• Oversee production of statutory annual accounts and liaise with external auditors.
• Ensure all financial reporting meets the requirements of the Charity Commission, HMRC, Companies House, and other relevant bodies.
• Manage and improve financial reporting systems for central and branch operations, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and compliance across UKIM.
• Develop and implement financial policies, procedures, and controls aligned with charity sector best practices.
• Lead the preparation of monthly management accounts, variance analysis, and financial commentary.
• Monitor cash flow, manage banking relationships, and provide advice on investments and reserves management.
• Ensure the timely and accurate processing of payroll, PAYE, and pension contributions.
• Oversee gift aid management and ensure compliance with HMRC requirements.
• Support the development of strategic plans and business models to enhance financial sustainability.
• Provide financial oversight and guidance for international relief activities and capital projects.
• Conduct financial risk assessments and advise on mitigation strategies.
• Maintain effective internal and external audit processes and coordinate risk management frameworks.
• Lead, support, and develop the finance team to ensure high performance and continuous professional development.
• Liaise with branches and departments to support local financial administration and capacity building.
• Ensure all charity finance operations adhere to the UKIM constitution, byelaws, and relevant legislation.

Person Specification
• Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) with significant post-qualification experience.
• Proven leadership experience in financial management within the charity or non-profit sector.
• Strong knowledge of charity accounting standards (SORP), VAT, Gift Aid, and charity legislation.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to present complex information clearly.
• High level of integrity, strategic thinking, and attention to detail.
• Experience working with finance systems and modern accounting software as iPlicit.
• An understanding of and sympathy with the aims and values of UKIM and Muslim communities in the UK.

• Must be eligible to work in the UK.
