Senior Quantity Surveyor

We are seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to support the delivery of refurbishment, fit out and civils projects across multiple RAF bases in Oxfordshire and surrounding areas.
This role is ideal for someone based in the Midlands who is comfortable working across a varied defence portfolio and who thrives in a two‑stage design and build environment. You will play a key part in managing commercial performance, controlling design and cost risk, and supporting the development of a junior Quantity Surveyor.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver full Quantity Surveying duties on refurbishment, fit out and civils projects typically ranging from £1m to £10m.
* Manage commercial activities within a two‑stage design and build environment, ensuring cost control and robust risk management.
* Work closely with design teams to manage scope, maintain programme integrity and protect project margins.
* Support the delivery of a multi‑site Defence portfolio, primarily across RAF Brize Norton, Bicester, Benson and other Oxfordshire locations.
* Produce and manage cost plans, estimates, tenders and contract documentation.
* Administer NEC4 contracts including early warnings and task‑order processes.
* Lead commercial reporting, forecasting and financial governance.
* Build and maintain strong relationships with internal delivery teams, clients and stakeholders.
* Provide line management and mentorship to the junior QS within the team.
* Ensure compliance with health, safety, quality and security requirements across all work.
Essential Skills and Requirements
* Demonstrable experience within a main contractor environment.
* Strong background in two‑stage design and build delivery with proven risk and cost control through the design phase.
* Solid working knowledge of NEC4 contracts in an FM‑style or task‑order environment.
* Full UK driving licence.
* Exposure to hangars, asbestos strip outs, munition stores, ballistics work or airfield civils (preferred).
* Degree in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline.
* Willingness to travel regularly across the Oxfordshire Defence estate.
* Ability to gain and maintain DBS and SC security clearance.
* Chartered status (RICS or CIOB) desirable.
* Experience working on Defence or MOD estate projects (desirable).
