Family Support Worker

As a Family Support Worker, you'll manage support packages for children with diverse disabilities, regularly reviewing their needs and progress. You'll drive goal achievement, coordinate with other professionals (including chairing "Team around the Child" meetings), and participate in forums like Education and Health meetings. You may also supervise other Family Support Workers, offer guidance on care plans, assist with social worker assessments, and occasionally deputize for the Team Leader.

About the role

The Disabled Children's Family Support Team, part of Children's Social Care's Identification and Assessment division, is based in Moor Lane, Chessington, covering Richmond and Kingston. We support children up to 18 with significant and profound disabilities, focusing on care planning, short break planning, and long-term family support.

Our team shares a building with Kingston Health colleagues (paediatricians, physiotherapists, speech therapists, emotional health support, and nurses), fostering strong links with community teams like Richmond's equivalent, CAMHS, and school nursing. These relationships are crucial for delivering high-quality service and understanding each other's roles. Regular CPD sessions are available for continued learning.

About you

We're looking for someone to support children with disabilities and their families. You'll need GCSE-level education (A-Levels are a plus) and experience in family support, including assessments and multi-agency work. Strong communication skills are key, especially with children using alternative methods, as is a good understanding of how disabilities affect families.

You'll directly support children, lead meetings, and advocate for their needs. A solid grasp of child safeguarding and risk awareness is vital. You'll also be responsible for accurate record-keeping, report writing, and promoting equality and diversity.

We need someone passionate about our mission to help young people thrive. You should be tech-savvy (Microsoft/Google) with excellent organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills. We value independent, driven individuals who collaborate well and have strong negotiation and influencing abilities.
