Main duties of the job

This new role was created to meet thegrowing demand for therapeutic and wellbeing-focused services, and yourcontribution will be key in shaping how we support our clients.

Success will mean developing engagingprograms, working closely with colleagues to integrate recreational therapyinto client timetables, and showing the positive impact your work has on clientoutcomes.

The Recreational Therapist will design,deliver, and oversee recreational programs that enrich the lives of individualsaged 1680. This role is central to fostering inclusion, wellbeing, and socialconnection through engaging activities and community participation.

Job responsibilities

Plan and deliver recreational activities tailored to diverse interests, abilities, and age groups.

Organise and support community visits, ensuring safe, enjoyable, and accessible experiences.

Develop and manage a calendar of events that promotes social engagement, learning, and fun.

Collaborate with clients, families, and community partners to identify needs and co-create meaningful programs.

Ensure inclusivity and accessibility in all activities, adapting approaches to meet individual preferences.

Drive wheelchair-accessible vehicles to support safe and comfortable transport for clients.

Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness, gathering feedback to continuously improve offerings.

Maintain records and reports on participation, outcomes, and resource use

To effectively communicate using a variety of styles that demonstrates the values and behaviours of STEPS.

To communicate with people clearly and in a manner and at a level and pace appropriate to their abilities, preferences and beliefs.

To develop effective relationships with clients, carers, staff, suppliers and others as from time to time may be required.

To use all resources responsibly being mindful of the implications of your decisions.

To be responsible for day-to-day workload allocation, interacting with the STEPS team as appropriate.

To review requirements for stock/equipment, and feedback recommendations to the SMT.


Person Specification


Qualifications

* OT, PT, Nurse, Psychology graduate
* Valid drivers license with experience driving wheelchair-accessible vehicles
* Key trainer/train the trainer qualification.
* Leadership, mentorship or supervisory course
* Relevant qualifications such as Dance, Sports & Exercise or creative arts.

* Experience in activity planning, event coordination, or community engagement.
* Experience in running group sessions or activities.
* Experience in facilitating group trips or events.
* Experience in supporting clients on a 1:1 basis.
* Experience in supporting clients with personal care needs such as supporting someone with toileting in the community.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a client-centred approach.
* Ability to adapt activities for a wide range of ages and abilities.
* Organisational skills to manage multiple events and priorities.
* Creativity and enthusiasm for fostering social connection and wellbeing.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to document clinical work clearly and in line with professional and organisational standards.
* Creative and innovative approach, inclusive and engaging approach to client care
* Excellent problem-solving skills
* Able to form key working relationships with colleagues, understand the dynamics of interdisciplinary working
* Adaptable and flexible
* Dynamic & creative
* Experience of working in an interdisciplinary team within an acute or specialist rehabilitation setting
* Experience of working in a private medical setting
* Experience of writing medico legal reports
* Experience of audit functions
* Experience of facilitating joint sessions or collaborative work with other allied health professionals or clinical disciplines.
* Moving & handling experience.

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.

£31,500 to £38,750 a yearpro rata. Generous benefits package & enhancements
