Job Description
Our client is looking for a Senior General Foreman to lead and oversee site operations across a variety of civil engineering projects. This is a hands-on role with real responsibility, where you will manage teams of apprentices, operatives, and subcontractors to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards. You will also play a key role in mentoring and developing site teams, helping raise construction standards across multiple sites.
Senior General Foreman - What will you work on?
Join a business delivering a wide range of civil engineering and infrastructure projects, including:
* Highways and transport improvements roundabouts, junctions, and connectivity schemes
* Drainage, earthworks, and flood alleviation projects
* Public realm, river and coastal defence works
* Utilities, site infrastructure, and complex technical civil engineering schemes
Senior General Foreman Responsibilities:
* Oversee daily site operations, ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and environmental standards.
* Lead and mentor apprentices, plant operators, general operatives, and subcontractors.
* Assist Project Managers and Site Agents with mobilisation, site setup, inductions, and toolbox talks.
* Monitor plant, labour, and material usage to control costs and maximise efficiency.
* Maintain as-built records, daily logs, and photographic records of progress.
* Monitor subcontractor performance and workmanship, advising Project Managers of issues.
* Support snagging, handover, and post-completion processes to ensure defect-free delivery.
* Contribute to recruitment, development, and performance monitoring of site teams.
* Troubleshoot and advise on complex site issues, providing expertise across multiple projects.
Senior General Foreman Criteria:
* SMSTS, CSCS Gold Card, NVQ Level 3
* NRSWA Supervisor, Lift Supervisor (Excavator Only), Temporary Works Supervisor
* IOSH Management (Buried Services), Confined Spaces Training, 5-day First Aid
* Strong understanding of drawings, specifications, and tender plant/labour allocations
* Excellent leadership, organisational, and communication skills
Working Hours
* Typically 7:30am 5:30pm, with flexibility required for site demands
