AI Business Development Director Permanent Eligible for SC Clearance or Actively SC Cleared Hybrid working - Home based (must be in the UK) Must have consultancy experience This is a high-impact commercial role focused on identifying, shaping, and closing new business opportunities within the AI space. You’ll be reporting directly to the head of a specialised AI unit and play a central role in expanding the reach of intelligent solutions across a diverse client base. Your Responsibilities: Drive the end-to-end sales cycle from lead generation through to deal closure, with a primary focus on artificial intelligence offerings. Stay informed of a broad portfolio of digital and IT services, ensuring you can recognise and redirect potential opportunities to other internal teams where appropriate. Work alongside technical and strategic specialists to help evolve and refine our AI capabilities based on market demand and client feedback. Develop trusted relationships with senior client stakeholders by understanding the unique challenges they face within their sectors. Effectively articulate how our tailored solutions address those challenges, leveraging case studies and proof points from our project history. Maintain close alignment with our partner ecosystem to co-create value on opportunities that require joint delivery or complementary capabilities. Attend industry conferences and networking events to stay on top of trends and grow your contact base. Use client meetings – especially initial engagements – as opportunities to build rapport in person whenever feasible. Capture sales activities and pipeline progression in the company’s CRM (e.g., Salesforce or similar). Actively participate in a collaborative internal community of AI professionals sharing insights, market intelligence, and learning. Bring in new leads through both personal networks and proactive outreach. What You’ll Bring: At least 6 years of experience in business development or sales, with a proven track record in closing deals. Minimum 1 year of experience selling AI or machine learning services or platforms. Familiarity with complex solution sales – especially bespoke systems or IT infrastructure projects (product-only sales exposure is not sufficient). Domain expertise or strong client exposure in one or more of the following: telecoms, financial services, utilities, retail, manufacturing, or public sector. Up-to-date knowledge of the fast-evolving AI landscape and the ability to translate that into meaningful conversations with clients. Creative thinking around how emerging technologies can be applied to real-world business challenges. Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills. Proactive, self-starting mindset with an entrepreneurial approach to growth. Willingness and ability to travel to client sites as needed. Eligibility for government security clearance is advantageous.
