Welfare and Support Officer
£31,022 - £33,699 per annum
Site based
37 hours per week
Temporary contract for up to 2 years
The Community Safety Partnership team has a vital role in promoting community cohesion across the borough.
We are looking for a committed and compassionate Welfare and Support Officer to provide high‑quality welfare and administrative support to a diverse group of residents living in Home Office‑provided accommodation.
This is a rewarding frontline role where you will work directly with a wide range of people offering bespoke 1:1 support, promoting independence, and helping residents access education, legal advice, health and wellbeing services, and financial inclusion support.
You will work closely with internal teams, statutory services, voluntary organisations, and community partners to ensure positive outcomes for residents while contributing to the Council’s wider approach to equality, diversity, and vulnerability.
Responsibilities
* Provide tailored 1:1 welfare support to residents and maintain accurate case management records
* Assess and submit documentation in response to Home Office correspondence, including liaising with legal aid and support services
* Work closely with partners to support residents
* Support residents to apply for Permission to Work and track progress where appropriate
* Assist residents to enrol in Further Education and ESOL provision
* Hold regular advice surgeries within Home Office accommodation and community venues
* Signpost residents to appropriate health, wellbeing and voluntary opportunities
* Support residents with transition into independent living
* Collect feedback, monitor outcomes and contribute to reports evidencing programme impact
* Attend community events, council meetings and multi‑agency forums as required
* Ensure compliance with health and safety, safeguarding, GDPR, equality and diversity, and risk management requirements
Qualifications
* Has experience of partnership working within a multi‑agency environment
* Has experience working with people from under‑represented or vulnerable groups
* Communicates effectively and confidently with a wide range of people
* Is organised, empathetic, resilient and able to work calmly in challenging situations
* Can work independently as well as part of a supportive team
* Is confident using Microsoft Office and managing data and reports
You will be educated to GCSE level (or equivalent) or be able to demonstrate relevant experience. A second language is desirable but not essential.
