As the Lead for patient safety, the post holder will work as part of the multidisciplinary team in the on-going provision and development of patient safety within the service to enhance the provision of care for patients within the medicine and emergency care specialties.
The Patient safety lead will be responsible for ensuring the management and co-ordination of the monitoring and promotion of patient safety across the services, including both The James Cook University Hospital and Friarage Hospital integrating the Directorates objectives with those of the wider Trust.
Main duties of the job
An active involvement with regional and national patient safety networks is promoted to achieve consistency of practice, high standards of care and innovation with a strong patient safety focus.
Active involvement with the wider Trust patient safety team will be maintained and the post holder will participate in the achievement of safety and clinical governance objectives for the medicine and emergency care directorates.
The post holder will be actively involved with the teams involved in the achievement and maintenance of all quality standards relevant to the areas including STACQ accreditation and preparedness for regulatory inspections.

Essential criteria
1. RSCN or equivalent NHS experience in a patient safety arena
2. Degree / Diploma
3. Evidence of continuing development
Desirable criteria
4. Excellent IT skills
5. Leadership qualification
6. RCA/ datix training Teaching qualification or relevant experience
Experience

7. Significant experience working in the NHS
8. Experience of working in an MDT and across organisational and professional boundaries
9. Ability to work as part of a team
10. Experience of clinical audit and using outcome measures
11. Experience of change processes
Desirable criteria
12. Experience in the investigation of incidents
Knowledge
Essential criteria
13. Knowledge and understanding of national standards relating to patient setting
14. Understanding of national and local risk management and patient safety standards and procedures
15. Computer literate ability to use Word/Excel/Powerpoint, etc.
16. In depth understanding of Information Governance and Confidentiality
