Senior Architect (Buildings)
Location: Plymouth, England
Salary: GBP 70 - 75 per hour (rate depends on experience)
Duration: 12 months
Role: Senior Architect (Civil)
Purpose: The Major Infrastructure Projects directorate provides major new or upgraded dock, berth and building infrastructure projects to provide facilities for the ship and submarine sustainment programmes. As an Architect or Senior Architect you'll work with multi‑discipline infrastructure system designs to provide an overall sustainment capability. Using your experience in facility upgrade and buildings designs you will manage and review design packages by subconsultants and work with users and other stakeholders to ensure that the integrated facility provides the sustainment capability. You will use your Architectural expertise to ensure the end product meets the technical and operational requirements of the facility. Supporting the delivery of the Architectural aspects of the Facility designs. Ensure systems are designed against a clear statement of compliance with defined requirements, including demonstration that the design meets relevant HSE requirements. Support the delivery of Architectural work packages to the required scope, quality, schedule and cost.
Responsibilities
* Supporting the management of the Architectural elements of the Extant Facility Subways (Both Extant Subways and Southern Services) upgrade, ensuring designer technical performance and making appropriate technical responses. Provide Subject Matter Expert advice for Architecture.
* Providing technical design guidance and review of architectural design packages.
* Reviewing integration of architectural designs with other design packages.
* Ensuring design documentation covers the scope of operations required by the Project Manager and is produced to agreed standards, schedule and budget.
* Planning for effective project implementation, identifying key factors and effectively contributing to the project’s technical planning process.
* Ensuring effective Quality Management Arrangements operate and deliver through compliance with the client’s Business Management System and Technical Manual.
* Documenting processes and activities with appropriate records, configuration, and quality controls.
* Ensuring staff and contractors are familiar with hazards and risks associated with the work undertaken by the consultant team through effective Risk Assessment management and communication.
* Managing the technical aspects of the architectural packages, including BIM application on the relevant/interfacing systems, from identification of the need, through to handover.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
* Experience with highly complex buildings in the nuclear sector (desirable).
* Experience with complex buildings in a heavily regulated environment (essential).
* Experience with major civil infrastructure projects in the marine environment.
* A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture or Architectural Technology.
Nationality and Security
Due to the nature of the work carried out at the client’s site, these roles are subject to specific nationality requirements and are only open to sole British citizens. Candidates who meet this criterion will also be required to undergo security clearance vetting.
